1972 914- Sell it, Part it or Raffle it??
So I have this 914 that I need to get rid of. What do you think I should do with it?
Try and sell as a whole. I have way more $ in it than I could ever get out of it but it could basically be driven any where making the body a nice carrying case for the new motor and trans. [ 15 ] ** [18.99%]
Sell the motor then the trans and then part out the rest of the car. [ 20 ] ** [25.32%]
Sell 60 raffle tickets for $100.00 each. [ 44 ] ** [55.70%]
What is it worth?
$0 to $1000 [ 3 ] ** [3.80%]
$1001 to $2000 [ 7 ] ** [8.86%]
$2001 to $3000 [ 30 ] ** [37.97%]
$3001 to $4000 [ 21 ] ** [26.58%]
$4001 to $5000 (really) [ 13 ] ** [16.46%]
$5001 to $6000 (No, Rally) [ 2 ] ** [2.53%]
$6000 PLUS (I have beach front property in Ely you need to see) [ 3 ] ** [3.80%]
How much should I raffle it for?
$3000 [ 20 ] ** [25.32%]
$4000 [ 15 ] ** [18.99%]
$4500 [ 6 ] ** [7.59%]
$5000 [ 11 ] ** [13.92%]
$5500 [ 2 ] ** [2.53%]
$6000 ($500 to The Small Miracles Foundation) [ 18 ] ** [22.78%]
$7000 ($1500 to The Small Miracles Foundation) [ 7 ] ** [8.86%]

You folks think this is only a 3k car? Really? Rebuilt motor & trans, & only 3K?

I don't think selling this car does anything positive for your shop's reputation. I would part it.

We're not a shop. We only sell parts.

I hope that isn't the companies mission statement (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

No, this is not our mission statement! In your first statement you referenced our "shop" and I think Mark thought of a shop that builds cars as I did. The truth is we do not build cars as part of our business. I would love to do that though and, you are right, no this would not be the car that I would put out to represent our "shop". This car was a car that I wanted for a certain purpous and now my life has changed to the point where the car needs to be sold. And as for just selling parts what Mark meant to say is "we sell the best Eruopean car parts at the best prices, and it all started with the 914"

- I know you are very highly regarded on the board. Sorry if my marketing enthusiasm was mis-directed.

Not mis-directed at all. I totally understand it and it makes sense. It is easy to say things in print that just do not work with out the tone of voice, facial expression, body language and sarcasm that you get in person. I read it the same way you did when i first saw it but could also hear his voice and see what he meant. Good lesson. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I will give you a set of early Pedrini wheels for it to further your cause. You have to buy the lug bolts though. I might even refinish them for you (bead blast & paint).

Then raffle it. $50 - $100 per ticket to get your money out of it. Even though we are CASOBs, there has to be 60 - 120 people on this board that are willing to lose the money for a chance.

Quit the stalling and start the raffling at $50. With club pelican samba and world you'll make money. Common!

Badly worded response on my part. Now you know why I'm not the salesman.

I would be in. I would give it to Scotty to fix up and sell/drive around (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

And I'd likely be begging to buy it from him.

Again, I'm in for a ticket @ $50.
