Check out what I just bought tonight! I had been meaning to buy a new car for a long time. I could never find one that I liked enough to justify paying for. Well I finally made up my mind...
It's a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon. I never used to like white but I think it actually works on this car. I am still breaking it in. It's gonna be fun once I can actually rev it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Breaking it in? Geez, whenever anyone tests a new car at a dealer, they always floor it for at least the first gear..
Go have fun.. Its under warranty.. Andrew (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I bought the car with 19 miles. I think I am the first person to drive it any reasonable distance. The engine still smells funny since it has never really warmed up before.

Nice. We're about to spring for the new Legacy. Should be good for hauling the upcoming kid around in :-).
Should also have around the same power output as my 914 when it's done :-) The subaru's make great Ski cars, and they do pretty well at keeping up with 914s on fun runs. It's always nice to have 2 volkswagon derived flat-4s in the garage. Fiid. |

Joy's '97 Legacy Outback is down with one or more failed head gaskets. while i find a used engine to replace that one, we're looking at newer Outbacks. i think she's going to wind up with a 2000-2002 3,0 6 Outback. (and i will drive the re-engined 2,5-l 4 in the wintertime, sparing the 911 from salt ...)

I have heard of the head gasket issues with the 2.5L. I don't know if it's an issue on the 2.0L or not. I hope not. The transmission is apparently the weak link so I am shifting it like a 914 right now - slowly and consciously.
I test drove the Legacy GT over the weekend. That car is AWESOME. 250hp 250 ft-lb of torque and infinite power almost from a stop. No turbo spool up required on that car. Easily the fastest car I have ever driven and the first time I have felt like a car was running away from me since I bought my Mustang a few years ago. The Mustang is going up for sale very soon. I can't afford to insure all three cars. |

QUOTE(jkeyzer @ Jul 9 2004, 07:34 AM) I have heard of the head gasket issues with the 2.5L. the well-documented issue is with the "series-II" 1999-2001 "improved" 2,5-liters. there's a factory recall that calls for pouring some sealer glop in the cooling system ... i suspect on ours the high mileage (145k+) caught up with it, and we may have gone one year too long on coolant and had a freeze issue help things along... oh well - replacement engines seem to be available, and we'll move forward. the rest is sound... |

On the Subie note...
I just saw that they are putting the STI goodies on the Forester. Headroom and butt hauling. I just wish they'd bring back the Brat with STI componants (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

They pretty much have brought back the Brat, and there is an Sti based turbo option:
http://www.subaru.com/servlet/showroom?tra...bTrimName=TURBO It says 210 HP but it's a 2.5L engine which means de-tuned Sti. Bigger turbo and some other changes and you could probably get 300hp+ out of it. Andy, they give you a free SCCA membership when you buy the car, and then tell you that if anything breaks it's not covered under warranty. :finger2: |
