Has anyone ever tried those dash caps that cover you cracked dash and are supposed to make it look new like they sell on ebay?

Do they look like the real deal or is it pretty obvious that it's a pad?

As close as you can get without spending a lot on the original dash. They do come around on eBay.

Here are some pics of the "dry fit" [not yet trimmed or glued since I am still considering an original]. Of course I can think of better places to spend the $

If it's "I don't want to look at the cracks no more" then go with the cap.........if it's a CW look you want, open your wallet wide.

I have one on Dallas.......good enough for the girls I go out with. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The previous owner put one of these on, and I haven't replaced it. It looks OK, but one big draw-back is that it is too shiny - and causes glare in the afternoon sun. I'm now on the look out for a nice used dash, or finding a place to redo mine.

Good luck,

I like mine especially since it only cost $37 off Ebay. Fits great & I always hear "I didn't know it was a cap until you pointed it out". To the normal everyday person they look jes'fine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)

Has anyone had their dash covered in vinyl/leather? Kind of a 50s euro car race look. I saw it done on a fiat 124 one time and it looked sweet. There are some modern cars that have this too, but I cant think of any off the top of my head.

I have the dash cap. The only thing that gives it away is it looks better than the ash tray.

I am having the entire interior re-done in leather, hopefully tomorrow, in TJ. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm saving the original interior (Factory 6) and having a late style back pad and 2 late seats installed into my 6. If I want to put the original back in, I can, but I'd prefer to have the seat brackets welded in so I can run a movable passenger seat.

I am also having my Doors from my 1973 retrofitted to the 914/6 so I can have late window regulators. I hate my early window regulators.

The plan is to have them pull the glass, strip most, if not all of the paint, cut out bad metal and weld in new, pound and beat into shape and use the minimal bondo for smoothing. I also plan to have them weld in the Chassi stiffening clam shells and a new jack point.

I am figuring $3000...
