hi to all. got engine started after 3 mo it sounds ok but there is a occasional sqeakin noise followed by an immediate miss. looking for a place to start. im thinking maybe a valve or lifter or distributor. any help is appreciated.

ok here is a list of details:
engine size 1.8
valves set at 006 ex 008 intake
oil kendal 20w 50
noise fades or lessen often when engine is warm

i need to get on the road hope it nothing serious, if it is will someone lend me a 6 or v8 914 until it is running (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

1. point rubbing block on dizzy cam

2. loose metal around alternator

3. Lots of blowby causing "squeak/tweet" from pressure being relieved at rear main seal.

4. Bad alternator bearing.

5. Mouse in squirrel cage blower not being fed.

6. Slipping alternator drive belt.

Check your valve clearances they should both be the same on the 1.8l. the book says 0.6

actually, set 'em to 004 all around. that'll give you some extra "punch" once the engine is running ok again ...
