> Tire sizes + offsets..., 225's fit?

I thought I remembered seeing a link at another msg board, about tire size + offset fitments on stock fenders. I'm thinking 15x7's, with +23mm offset and 205/50/15's? what about 225's? Wonder if they will fit. I am hoping I win some old BBS's that are 15x7's on ebay, and want to see what size tires I can find for them. thanks!

Ok, this is not right answer to your question and I know some will disagree this, but I think you can not use 7 inch wide rims with 23 ET in narrow body 914 at rear. At least you will need heavy baseball bat rolling or you can use only 195 wide tires.

I have 7 inch wide BBS rims with 23 ET and I will use 205mm wide tires. I have desided to solve the problem this way:

(IMG:http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/914-6/KUVIA/5.jpg) (IMG:http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/914-6/KUVIA/7.jpg)

I moved the bearing carrier 15 mm inwards.

(IMG:http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/914-6/KUVIA/9.jpg)

Right side jig for the job.

There's no way you are going to get 23mm offset 7x15 in there completely stock.
The 911R rims that are the factory way for narrow-body 911 are 49mm offset.
The 911R wheels would stick out 1/2" farther than stock, and the 23mm offset
would be out another 1" more.

If you don't want to mess with your fenders you could choose another later
porsche rim that would fit with spacers.

Hi,

I'm running 225-55-16 tires on a 16x6 fuch wheel.

They clear the trailing arm and the inner fender but not by much. I had to massage the outer fender on the drivers side a bit but that was it.

A 225 tires on a 16x6 rim is a bit too much i think. The tire is sticking out from the rim pretty much. I had to run a DE (my first one) with these tires as they didn't want me to put my AX tires (195-50-14 Toyo proxess RA-1) on the car so I could learn the feel of my car. We had a big left hand hairpin at the end of a staight. After inspection, i noticed that the passengers side tire had rubbed at a certain point on the inner fender and the trailing arm. Must of been tire deflection.

I currently have 16x7" Fuchs on the rear of my car, with 205/45/16's and it doesn't rub. The fenders are already rolled as much as they could. Hmm...

The rims that Revolution sell are 15x7 and 17x7 with a 35mm offset....I've seen a set of thier 15x7's with 205/50/15's with no fender mods on an early car.

I had 16x7 phonedials with the 23mm offset and 205/50/16's. I had to pull the fenders out a bit to get them to fit properly.....the average person couldn't tell that the fenders had been "tweaked"

Each car is different......I like the mods Timo !!!!

I'm waiting for someone to run 8's or 9' s under stock fenders.... I think the trailing arm can be safely notched and stregthened to make this happen. Of course the inside trunk wall will have to be massaged as well, but hey, why be normal (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

hmm, damn, I guess they won't fit. I want to downsize to a 15" wheel so tires will be cheaper, and have more choices... Anyone selling 15" wheels in a 5 lug? hehe

Hmm, I've seen people with phone dials on their non flared 914's, but aren't those 15x7's with 23 offsets too? Grrrr.... must find some wheels/tires for track day.... What other wheels would fit? I don't care of the condition or style very much. Just need them as track wheels.

Cookie cutters. 15x6 cookies are cheap. 15x7 are more expensive, but they're still not that pricey. I believe some/many/most come in offsets that are 914-friendly.

BTW, the selection of tires in 16" diameters tends to be better than that in 15s. When you get to 17s, most performance-type tires have these. They generally are more expensive, though.

Timo,

Did you chat with RJ about this before going this far ?? RJ felt he didnt gain anything by narrowing the arm. The problem is the inner fenderwell.

We run 15X7's on a car with rolled fender lips and the chassis stiff kit in place with what measures to be a 225/50/15. Be VERY careful. The stiff kit eats up several MM's of room under the fender. We run a small 5mm spacer because of it.

I have 15x7 cookie cutters with 205/50 Kumhos. They fit great (with rear lip rolling) and are cheap...like $700 for 4 decent condition wheels AND 4 new DOT-R tires, hard to beat that.

IIRC the 911 cookie cutters are the same offset as the 911 Fuchs from the same vintage. The cookies were the "standard alloy" (i.e. unless you paid for the Fuchs) on tons of 911s, so they are pretty plentiful.

Coincidentally I am planning to go to 16x7's. Lower profile tire and also more clearance to raise the strut spindles.

L8,
The 6" cookies have a 36mm offset, the 7" have a 23mm offset. On my car with just the rolled lip, I can get the 6" under there with 205/50 kumhos, and there is no rub.

Well, I used to run 7x15 911R Fuchs (49mm ET) with 12mm spacers. Without spacers they would have rub the inner fenderwell. So, the real offset with the spacers was 49 - 12 = 37 mm. Like Mike told, 7 inch wide Revolution rims have 35 mm ET cause it is perfect for 914s.

(IMG:http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/914-6/KUVIA/Tp1.jpg) (IMG:http://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/914-6/KUVIA/TV01.jpg)

My new BBSs have 23 mm ET and I have "tubbed" the trailingarms 15 mm. So, the situation is the same as having 23 + 15 = 38 mm ET rims. This is why I did the trailing arm job. I hope you understand my lousy explanations (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

B, no, I didn´t chat with RJ. I have tried it a long time ago, but he was not very interested in giving any information. He only tried to sell his parts to me. The customs and freight made already expencive parts way over my budjets. I have done my own measurements.

BTW, I don´t have stiff kitt. Should I have one ??

L8, the first set of wheels are BBS, so they could be just about any offset. BBS made wheels for a lot of different cars, including a number of different years of 911. There's a pretty decent chance that they'll work fine, because most of the 911s you'd put 15" rims on needed about the same offset as the 914 does, but...

It's kinda funny--there's one image there of the rim of a polished Fuchs wheel with a large dent in the lip. Dunno why that's there.

The second set of wheels you linked to are the "cookie cutter" ones.

Timo, I've seen one other stock-fendered 914 with 911R wheels on it, and they could not fit 205-width tires. I think I recall that they said the interference was on the fender lip side, but I could be mis-remembering that. It was a very pretty blue 914-6 conversion with a 2.7 CIS motor. Nice car.

On the whole chassis stiffening question, see one of the other long posts up on this BBS. People have been talking about the kit and the trailing arm stiffness in quite a bit of detail. With pictures, even.

Speaking of offsets, is there some sort of coding in the Porsche part number that might tell you what the offset is? I've been looking at 16" Fuchs for my 5-bolt upgrade and have seen a few different part # combos:

911 361 020

911 362 115 62

...and the like. Any insight would be appreciated (or part# breakdowns)

Thanks!

Dammit! I wish I'd seen this thread sooner today when I was at work. If I'd known Terrance wasn't gonna pop fer'um I night have bought that set of BBS wheels. They're a bitch to clean but... $280? That's a steal.

AJ,
Here's a file posted long ago which I think is great. It
