Took my alternator out and the black back plate off. A very dried up dead gasket fell apart between the two. Where can I get a replacement gasket or is it safe enough to cut my own from some gasket stock?

What's this thing do anyway (the gasket).

cut your own. keeping dust and grime out, i believe (altough the thing is wide open anyways) ...
