Ok,
So I am still looking for my vacuum leak...

Are the fuel injector seals on a 1.8L just o rings? Or are they sumething special?

They're special O rings. Two per injector, one small , one large. Cheap to buy and easy to replace but you have to buy specific rings for VW/914. Available at the dealer, aftermarket Porsche parts houses or local VW specialty parts stores.

If you were to cut one in cross-section the seal is square, not round like an Oring.

Most of the time you only have to replace the small tip seal, the larger one is just a holder and doesn't seal anything.
