Dumb question but what media would be a "no-no" for cleaning up the same parts? I have only one friend with a blasting set-up and I mentioned making a visit and bringing over the parts for some cleaning. I don't know what he has in his rig.

Picking out media, I found the chart at the bottom of this page on McMaster-Carr's site pretty handy.

Man, am I glad I stopped to ask how to separate these tubes. Thanks for the advice. Did some light grinding to find the seam between the two plys in the ovals and they came apart very easily. Blasted these parts in a friend's cabinet yesterday. The rust is gone but the traces of sealer I didn't remove completely with heat and a chisel didn't respond to the blasting. Will just have a little more clean-up to do on them.
Thank you again for the pics and recommendations. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

We use sugarsand to remove rust from metal that we don't want to put too much texture into. Glass beads will take a lot longer to remove rust. You might try carb cleaner to get the soundeadner and sealer out. Or maybe soak in in a bucket of laquer thinner. I hate to say it but my norust 914 has a pinhole in this area, BEFORE I start digging around, I know where this usually leads.

Rust had pitted the back side above the round vent hole. Today, I held up the same piece to the light and discovered a 2nd pin hole in the recess for the door handle. It's so tiny that I haven't decided if to risk a quick buzz with the welder or simply Ospho/primer/seam sealer right over it. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif) Even a tiny rust hole means the metal has gotten thin in that area. Try to add some material without burning through and grind it smooth.
