I have a relatively new PC with Win 7 and was using IE 9. I also have Kaperskys anti-virus. IE was constantly puking, dying, etc. Plus it is slow.

So, I switched over to Chrome. Much, much faster, but quirky. With IE, I could click on a post, read it, hit back, and it would refresh the page so that any new or updated posts would be at the top with the symbol showing that there is new content. Not so with Chrome. Additionally, Chrome also "loses" back pages, which is kind of frustrating.

I have not compared Firefox yet. I know that it has its issues as well.

Would love to hear Andy's opinion here.

Firefox. Chrome is always gathering what you do for marketing.

I left IE for Chrome two years ago. I like it and feel pain in the ass when I am on another computer where it's not installed. Have a try.

I had tried firefox a while back, and I think that I had a beta version, something like namabantu 64 or whatever. It kinda sucked. I downloaded the regular version as Andy suggested, and so far, I am digging it. Much, much faster than IE, plus the added bonus of not croaking every few hours. No quirks as far as I can tell.

I too am growing fearful of google. I have an android phone, and it is unsettling that they know and track where I go, who I call, who I know, my favorite porn sites, what time I get up and go to bed, etc. Apple does much of the same with the iphone, but I would not credit google with nearly as much faith in their ethics. Plus, they are in bed with the government, which scares me even more. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

I use Safari on my ipad and it drops the page while trying to do PM's on this site after updating to 5.0. Maybe it's my iPad?

Mine does the same and it drives me crazy. I would have PMed this but you get the drill.

bigKen, chances are that your new PC came with a bunch of crap-ware bundled from the OEM. IE9's performance is top-notch when run as it was intended. Regardless of which browser you choose it's probably in your best interest to remove as much non essential software as possible, especially browser plug-ins (all the browsers have plug-in models).

Like Andy, I use all browsers regularly, but IE9 is my default, and I have no problems with 914world, it's a well run site. though a few too many emoticons for a site primarily trafficked by men.

oh yeah, at this point I should probably admit that I work at microsoft.

Download photon for the iPad. Was like 5 bucks and you can actually turn on flash! It runs flash on a server somewhere, but it does work. With out flash it's just like a windows browser..

Was using Chrome and Firefox. Switched to only Chrome since FF was having issues with Flash on my laptop. And Chrome has adblock now (sorry).

Other than that, Chrome works OK, but it has it's quirks.

I actually work with 5 major browsers every day. All our code needs to work flawlessly in these:

- Firefox
- Chrome
- Internet Explorer
- Opera
- Safari

What is the best browser? Might as well ask which is better carbs or FI? Yokohama or Goodyear? Synthetic or dyno? Piper or Cessna? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)
