QUOTE(GWN7 @ Apr 27 2003, 01:54 AM) The missing part/empty hole is as Craig describes, wiper switch. Yellow knob is the foglights. hmmm, now you got me all confused (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) on my '70, that's where the fog-light switch is (green), the wiper switch is to the right of the steering wheel ... ??? On one of my old cars, a '73, I thought I was really clever. I put a wiper switch out of an early car in an empty hole in the dash and brought a power wire out of the ignition switch into it, making it so that you had to both turn the wiper switch and the ignition switch before you could start the car. Made it real innocuous by putting an AC switch insert out of an old bug into the rubber. At some point the switch failed. Maybe giving it constant power was a little much for a 30 year old wiper switch.
Point being, somebody could easily have added a switch into the dash to serve some purpose or another. It sounds like the switch in question is a rear defrost switch. I seem to recall that those were to the left of the steering column. I know for certain that the wiper switches were on the right. |

Okay... here's a thought:
All the 914s had the same dash front, regardless of options. All the holes were predrilled. Is it possible that someone replaced the vinyl and got a too eager cutting out holes without counting switches? (Don't ask how I know that can happen.) -Rusty |

Is there original wiring behind the button in question? If so, this makes overenthousiastic drilling by self-appointed car improvement personnel less likely. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
