im thinking about removing the porportioning valve and putting in a T junction instead, i figure, less components, less trouble.
has anyone done it? can you post some pics? all this stemmed from wanting to put in steel braided brake line (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

(IMG:http://www.sirandy.com/pix/914/2003.04.14/IMGP1714.jpg) btw. why do you want to do this? i'm asking because if your brakes front/rear are still stock, this might not be a good idea. the stock brake bias is there for a reason ... in a perfect world, yes i would upgrade the front brakes.. if i got rid of the Proportion valve with stock brakes, there wold be more pressure to the rear (than stock)?
is that the reason? man, you're pretty darn fast whith them pics (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif) |

QUOTE(opera guy @ Aug 14 2004, 11:13 AM) if i got rid of the Proportion valve with stock brakes, there wold be more pressure to the rear (than stock)? is that the reason? yup - back brakes locking first is bad news (e.g. - "handbrake turn"). put some stuff in the front trunk, full tank of gas - not hard to get a decent front weight bias - or anyway - more front... it can be argued that Porsche was too conservative with front brake bias, and that an experienced driver who can apply brakes gently and smoothly (minimising weight transfer) can deal with more rear brake bias. just be careful ... |

Andy, besides replacing the proportioning valve with the T-junction, what else would you recommend?

One of these. Wilwood porp valve, but there's really no reason to round file the stock valve. I just like to post pix (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I know you've got 'thick skin'.
I just figured you would have blamed it on the original author, the title is QUOTE porportioinal valve --> T-junction |

That pic reminds me of one of the "issues" that pop up when doing the conversion. You'll note there is no room for the stock "prop valbe" with the Velious bulkhead mount...IIRC......dunno if Rich took care of that with his version.

Hey all you after-market proportioning valve people. I mounted mine like this. It works great and it's really easy to do. I've done 3 cars like this now and it has been just as easy on all 3.

Ok. Here's what's underneath. Make a simple L bracket for your valve. Make sure it will end up right infront of the package tray. You need to disconnect your main brake line that runs from the front to the firewall at both ends. Pull it forward and snake it through the hole right behind the cross member. My tunnel top has a lot of holes in it, but that isn't necessary for this job. I did that when I had a clutch tube issue. Next fab up a line from the prop valve back to the union. I think I used an 18" piece of line, but check that yourself. Make sure you use some gasket strip to prevent chaffing of the line on the edges of the tunnel. That T is used on the rear of a beetle. Pick a year, I think they all use it.
