Can anyone tell me what purpose the styrophome block on the passinger side floor board serves? I am refering to the foam piece on the floor board where the cockpit meets the fuel tank.

I am preparing to POR my floor board. Should I try to remove this chunk of foam or just paint over it?

BTW, mine is a '72. Is this some kind of pre-footrest that I have read about?

Any help is appreciated.

thx
