Hi Felix,

I don't know the time it takes to do a single flare yet. I'm keeping track on my car and will have rough time break down for the tools used, and the final smoothness desired. I think most people will end up using some filler because the metal-finishing is the time consuming part. Making the flares symetrical is part of the overall project, and just takes a little thought and care...plus a few templates, and a lot of eye-balling!

GTeener, are those glass or metal?

Mike,
Nice, and it looks like you saved the decal too. Did you weld filler pieces?

Thanks Felix...I welded in new material to fill up the gaps......I used a bottle jack and wood in between the trunk wall and the fender to get the spacing needed to clear the tire.....about an inch wider than stock and the rear of the wheel well does not taper back as is does on a stock fender....

Has anyone installed SC flares on the front of a 914???? I think 914's look odd with only the rear done, the front and rear of the car don't look right in my opinion...

Ask again in Feb/Mar. I plan on cutting out my "JP Flares" this winter and grafting in the SC flares that I picked up a while back. I've got SC front arches to go with them.

Just like this. I love this look (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) Same wheels, 9" with 255 in back and 7.5" with 225 in front. No spacers needed if you use the 23mm and 17mm offset ones.

Dr. Evil -

Do you know what the profile measurement on these tires are (front and rear) - and where to find these wheels with this offset?

Thanks!

nynone4,
The sizes are front 7.5x17 ET23 (23mm offset), Rear 9x17 ET15.
The make is Mille Miglia (mee-lay meelea). The style is Cup1. I am pretty sure that this particular offset goes on a later 944, but I am not sure. These wheels are easy to find in the 50 something mm offset so be careful. Here is one place you should be able to find them, Tire rack. You should be able to call them as well. http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_garage/Whe...87&autoModClar=

If you dont want to flare, or flare very little(like with a bat) you could go all 7.5" around I believe. If you are looking to get a set also look on ebay. I have the same wheels for my ride and go them new with brand new lug nuts, new Dunlop 9000 tires, mounted, ballanced, and delivered to my door for $1250. I could maybe find this guy for anyone who wants the same deal.
HTH,
Mike

Metal. Cut off an SC, fused nicely onto my baby (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Tough looking, huh?(IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

I bought the car with the work already done.

Oh no you don't.
My flares are "Ben flares". You get all the credit (or blame) for them suckers. I stolt the idea from you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm gonna try the porta-power trick on back of mine this winter so's I can get some slicks under there. If I hose that up, HPH f/g is "plan B".

Hey Mr Mueller -
What happened to that car? I really thought your flare job was great. If I ever go to a more refined car, I really want to do that to the rear fenders - I don't care if it's a factory concours six. It looks right to me. 8x16 rear fuchs on what appears to be a stock car?! fuhgetaboutit! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

I always snubbed those wheels whe they came out on the 44T, for some reason I really like them on the 914 - but they have to be w i d e. They look "right" as well.

Love that car... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I called them "JP Flares" because you have more celebrity than me. People know "JP Flares". If I said "Ben Flares" everyone would just say "What the he!! is he talking about?" he he. We'll see how it turns out. Those HPH fenders/quarters look pretty nice. I've thought about them quite a bit myself. (Hey Watts! Get your car put together and post pictures!!!)

-Ben M.

ps - Hey JP, we've got a two-day event this weekend if you want to come up here. It's not at TCR this time - check www.ssscc.org for info/directions. I'll be running Sat. but not Sun.
