I have started on a LS1 914 V8 conversion and wanted to have the first running car but it looks like Toyjet beat me. His car here looks like its real close to being ready.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) I hope to have my LS1 car running and sorted out by then. In the early spring Yearone Restoration parts is going to have a event for real street cars that will include the Dragstrip, autocross,Laps at Road Atlanta and a street drive to check the gas mileage. I sure want to give this a try with a V8 914. Bob |

It's a lot tighter fit than I imagined. Also, the flipped intake/TB protrudes into the trunk quite a bit as well. What transaxle are you guys using behind the LS1?

Considering all the obstacles in putting this engine into a 914 I think it looks really clean. Even the throttle body in the trunk looks like it belongs. I considered an LS6 for my 914 but did not want to be the first to do it. Now I'm putting a Mazda 3 rotor in instead.....like anyone has done that before. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Is the LS1/LS6 engine still a drive by wire set up? Do you keep this for the 914 install? |

Toasty! Looks good to me! Now, just take those corvette covers, and repaint them to say "porsche" instead, and Boom! No one will know! |

Nice! I'm sure it'll put my LT1 conversion to shame. I'd have gone for an LS1 if I could afford it, but the darn things are too expensive. It'll be interesting to see what it weighs when you're done. Does the LS1 have reverse cooling? If so, how did you deal with that?

This is my second LS1 914. I did one last year.
I run Corvette covers to get the attention of spectators at car shows. Without the Corvette covers most of the car show spectators will look at the car as just another 914 because your average spectator do not know what a porsche 914 engine look like. When I showed the car without the Corvette covers most of the spectators never recognized the LS1 engine because they had never seen a Porsche 914 engine before. Thanks a bunch for all of the compliments. It really motivates me to do the unthinkable. |

i read that edelbrock has a carb intake manifold that allows you to ditch FI on the LS-1. some guys dig FI. Some dont (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Cool. I like it. Is there a way to shorten the throttle body and box it into the engine compartment? I don't mean to be a critic but it looks a little unfinished sticking through the bulkhead.

Bob,
QUOTE LS1_V8_914, Toyjet beat me Considering there are virtually NO detail pics of these cars, I'd say you still have a chance. At least you could be the first in GA! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Stick with it and post progress pics like Rick'N'Alien... Felix |

QUOTE(andys @ Aug 19 2004, 08:07 AM) What transaxle are you guys using behind the LS1? I was looking at the LS1 myself, so these photo's are very interesting to me. The price of low mileage used motors is pretty high, and stay high as there aren't all that many out there. Most are sold with the trans, which you could sell and recoup some of the money. I may in the end opt for a smaller EFI V8 at 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of the LS1 to keep a check on the big torque from 350" motors. So, back to my orignal question: What transaxle are you guys running? Andy
I plan to use a 930 Trans. I plan to get the engine mounted and the smaller things done and then sell my SBC V8 conversion to get some funds to finish up the new car. I've seen a GT40 "kit car" that was made in England it came complete but without the engine. It was using a Audi 6sp transaxle behind a 4cam mustang cobra engine. I didn't have a camera or I would have gotten some pictures. Bob |
