Got my rear Boxster uprights/spindles.

Did a test fit with my 15x7 BBS wheels, they "almost" fit as is.

I plan on using the hubs for my 5 lug conversion and will see how feasible it is to re- purpose the parking brakes from the Boxster setup as well.

You released the tension on the suspension (hey, that rhymes) when you jacked it up, it will lower itself some, if/when you move it several feet in either direction.

Also, is the drive train is out?

Drive train still in the car, it has always been a tad on the high side.

that is a beautiful BBS for a 914!
I was in my cousins place last week at Pittsburg and thinking if we can have time to meet you. My cousin has a 73 that has been a project for several years. It was his daily car during early 2000.

It isn't what you drive, but how you drive that counts.

Got the 914 up on jack stands, removed the right rear tire and removed the gas tank today. What's next?

That's right - installing Tangerine Racing's SS fuel lines and all new rubber fuel hoses. Got the complete kit. Hoses were last changed in '94 and the car was last driven on the street in '08. I'm going to get it streetable again, so its time for new. The old lines are getting dry and one line under the fuel tank is getting sticky/gummy.

Before pulling the tank, I drained about 2 gallons of old fuel and put in a bit of fresh. Was able to get the engine started and running on 3 cylinders. Going to have to clean the injectors while everything's apart.

I finished colour sanding the car. Started to compound it. The driver's side came up good but the trunk is awful. Going to have to paint that again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

The fan end seal started leaking really badly on Elwood coming home from the Porsche 70th celebration in Ft. Worth. You have to pull the motor to replace it, so I started gathering parts. Saturday we pulled the motor and trans and started stripping it down to the long block.

Betty was out in the garage helping. I asked her to take the transmission mounts off. She didn't need the wrenches. She just pulled them forward and unscrewed the bolts with her fingers.

I pulled the fan/alternator off the motor. The fan had 0 shims in it, and the alternator ground strap was broken. Once I got the fan assembly off, this fell out:

Yea, those are corn kernels. I am not surprised, the car was an Iowa barn find.

Ran out of time on Saturday, and yesterday was taken up with running some errands, so I got back out there this morning. I pulled the intakes, and put corks in the ports. Then I removed the fan shroud.

Mouse fur... lots of mouse fur. And more corn. So the rest of the morning has been cleaning out the mouse fur. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon8.gif) Luck was with me, I didn't find any mouse carcasses.

I pulled the transmission and the flywheel. I was already going to replace the flywheel seal, but my case of Dirk Wright's disease flared up. So now I have a new clutch kit for him. Good thing too. There are absolutely no plastic parts on the clutch arm. None. Nada. MIA. Vanished. Gone the way of the Dodo.

I am taking all the tin, the fan shroud, the fan, and the upper valve covers to be run through the ultrasonic cleaner at Zims. After they come back, I have to paint them.

All of the bolts and nuts are in the tumbler getting cleaned too.

I am hoping I can start re-assembly on Thursday.

Went to move it to my SIL's house for summer storage and the battery was dead. Bought a new Odyssey and PMS hold down but it's already too hot to work on it. I'll install it tomorrow, early.

Further to colour sanding yesterday i used a compound pad with 3m fast cut liquid followed by 3m ultra fine cut with a polish head. The trunk and hood seems to have had some sort of reaction and will not shine up. The paint did not bloom so i need to do some research on this.

I didn't flat part of the rear and front fender good enough and had a few spots of orange peel so i've flat sanded those back again.

Now the passenger door. I did not use any flat black to check for uneven finish in the high build primer. It showed! This has now been taken right back and the small dink i put in one day when jacking has also been sorted.

Spent 8 hours (with a stop for chatting to the neighbours) on it today. I'm cooked now.

Joined a cars and coffee group in Cambria on a trip up Pacific Coast Highway to a place (Hotel/restaurant) called Ragged Point. Lots of late model Porsches, a Jaguar or two and a few Corvettes. The landslide on pch is supposed to be finished in two weeks, then I can ride all the way to Big Sur and the bay area. I took this pic on the way home.

7-year old cheap battery was dead so I got the Odyssey battery kit from PMS. Nice install with the bracket and hardware provided.

One of my twins insisted we wash the 914 this morning. I took some 2000 grit paper to clean it up some. The car had a lot of black smudges and stains from leaves and dirt piling up on it.

Tackling surface rust on both strut towers and Lt and Rt side under the fresh air cowl. Need to dig out factory sealant. Will use por 15 and an epoxy primer and respray the affected areas.

We need the latest pictures of the twins. Because I can remember when they were little. And that makes me feel old.

Rebuilt 2.7 finally came to life today for the first time since last fall. Started instantly and ran fairly smoothly considering. Timing and carburetors next.
