Was going to install my new Mesa 72 plate oil cooler w/ fan and my Mocal sandwich adapter today, but apparently the online race equipment dealer thinks it's alright to install socketless AN fittings onto stainless steel braided hose. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)
I'm sure its possible, but it's not correct and would probably look pretty crappy. Dumbasses!! Guess I'll have to wait until next week! |

Did some seat of the pants carb tuning. Car bogs badly at start off. Had read that means too lean. Cranked out the mixtures 1/4 turn at a time. Didn't improve too much. Switched up from 50 to 55 idles. Helped a little. Thinking I will see if I can get a set of 60s and see how those go.
All of this is pending some tuning time with an A/F meter, but I wanted to do something today, so I gave that a shot =) Oh, and I yelled at it. |

1. Put dash cover on--68 bucks from JC Whitney and free shipping! I had to take the a pillar covers off though to get it on.
2. Tried another old stock type radio--an AM Sapphire this time. no luck. I have my Blaupunkt Frankfurt in the shop though getting fixed (at least I think it's getting fixed...) 3. Worked on untweaking my rear decklid. Put a 2X4 near the middle rear edge and then me and my wife pushed down on each corner. I was kind of worried about messing up the hinges, or even breaking them, but what the hell--the "smiling" decklid looks like crap and I want it fixed. It looks better now--not perfect, but better. |

Cool video. Just picked up a GoPro a month ago myself, but can't use my clutch knee in the 914 quite yet (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
My trailer was delivered and we wasted no time figuring out where to mount the winch ... right above a 2x6" cross member seems the most logical place. Planning on building a small kitchenette in the 'V' area, so the winch will be pretty much hidden inside the cabinetry (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) ![]() ![]() |

Yes thats my fathers 58 impala . 40k miles mostly original except paint and wheels. 348 auto. The fenders on the 62 beetle are steel. They are the factory ones we added 6" to the back and 2" to the front. Running 8 and 10" wheels.

Finally got around to installing my steering rack cover with new rubber seals. Wish the rest of the bottom of the car looked as good.

Looks like a lot of wasted parts in the back of that truck! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Oh I sold off what I could, the steering column, the gas tank, the front suspension arms, etc. All that just to get the title. That picture was taken around the turn of the century (that sounds old!) and things were allot different back then. We cut up 914s that were in 10 times better shape than the cars you guys are restoring. We'd cut up a 914 just to see who had the best sawzall. I remember the guys back east hated us for it but the cars with just a little rust and didn't run were only worth a hundred $$. Plus we had to walk to school barefoot in the snow and it was uphill both ways. But we were glad to do it. |

I saved my car from going up in flames... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blowup.gif) I had a jump starter/battery box in my front trunk that shorted out and caught fire while I was in a store. Luckily I had a fire extinguisher and it didn't do any damage. Just made a mess. Not sure exactly how it happened. I'm very fortunate.

Installed flappers... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net-1110-1340123830.1.jpg) You have it installed backwards. The flapper attaches to the engine. The way you have it installed there is no way for the heat to dump overboard when you aren't using the heater. |

Filled in all the holes on the right inner suspension console. Got a little to agressive drilling out spot welds.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-1191-1339974824.jpg) I used my nail head technique to keep from blowing through. It saves me a lot of time, and provides good results. ![]() |
