Bruce Stone and I spent the day completing 60mm suspension lift on my Subaru Safari 914. Thanks to Elephant Racing.

Expect to have it on the road in a few months.

I replaced the gasket on my fuel cell..............and dropped my socket down beside the tank. 10 mm of course. I'll find it when I have occasion to pull the tank, maybe never.

On Saturday I put new front rotors and pads, plus repacked the front bearings on Elwood.

On Sunday I installed the new ignition switch so now all the keys match again, and I put in a stock early breakaway park brake handle.

Think of it this way: it will be a good day when you or someone finds a 10 socket

Cut into the passenger side long to see what horrors lie beneath.

Thus far, not as bad as I expected.

The metal on the bottom is the old rusted metal and the PO patched it with new metal. I guess it's time to cut it out and put in a new piece from Restoration Design...

So it wasn't technically today, but on Sunday we had a pretty big milestone. My son, who's been riding in the 914 since he was 3, got his first turn behind the wheel. Same car and same two people in both photos:

Did a whole lot of window shopping (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Put in an offer on a pair of doors and a pair of Corbeau seats

Looking for more missing bits to get targa top, hood, trunk and engine cover attached. And a dashboard.

I replaced the injectors , hoses etc on the drivers side of the 76
Then I went to the passenger side….I need to remove many more things just to get in there to work.

Air injection is IN MY WAY

Passenger side is always a PITA. Decel valve and MPS are always in the way when dealing with the fuel lines to the injectors and removing them is also a PITA with how they are mounted.

Drove 'em both as they hadn't been exercised in a while... good therapy!

BTW flipb- love the pix!! I'll have to find some of those myself! Hope I'm around long enough to see my grandsons (and grand daughter) learn to drive one of the 914's as well. Both my boys figured out the dogleg!!)

Well, not as much to the car, but related to it.

My youngest just turned 13, and basically climbed in and out of it on Sunday, both before and after acquisition of a Sparco EVO2 seat (not mounted yet). He thoroughly enjoyed removing the steering wheel, turning it full left and full right, etc.

I gave him a brief overview/lesson in internal combustion engines, transmissions and clutches, liquid cooled vs air cooled, how brakes and ABS work, etc.

Fun day ... new helper added to the pit crew ... and eager driver to be. My oldest is also on board. We'll see about my daughter ... she used to go Karting with my oldest, but now that she's getting her license, she's a bit timid.

For us outsde the US territory it is sometimes complicated to get parts for our cars.

Thank you guys in the forum for all the input and resources, I managed most of the requirements. With 914 rubber, autoatlanta, and a lot of Ebay, But there is a single part that has proven to be complicated to say the least.

My broken windshield. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Via 914Werke I located the part but had to be delivered via Houston Tx., so I needed to drive from Mexico City to Houston to drive the part into Mexico. The packaging I see in pictures will not stand the freight delivery, not in one piece at leat. I walked into Tijunana with the exhaust silencer and it was an adventure, but the windshield was a bit more complicated for me.

Some 6 months ago I went to the PORSCHE dealer near my home and asked the parts person if he can get me the part, he said he was going to ask “Planta in Puebla”. and he sent me a positive reply last week “We got the part number!, and I can get you the part for your 1974 car”. Which I really, REALY! appreciate from Porsche.

The price is a lot more expensive than what I can get it in Houston Tx., but the weekend trip and wife & kids shopping will be a lot more considerable, so I went to the dealer and put in a 50% deposit for the part.

Now lets see what we get in 5 weeks. In any case is promising. Now I need the frame clips and install kit from Autoatlanta jijijiji (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif) (o and a new gear lever, it moves around its broken).

The fun side is, with the set of papers I got with the car, was a windshield receipt for the customs agent in 1981, to the previous owner to import and deliver to his office in Mexico City. But the part was not anywhere to be found.

Took her for a little ride to Grass Valley and back. It's only about a 60 miles round-trip; on the way home she turned over 98K miles. That's about 8,300 miles since restoration.

Went to the Folsom Cars 'n Coffee this morning at the Sam's Club parking lot in Folsom. Probably 200-300 cars of all types. My brother is in charge of photos... this is all he took:
