Haha... Its just he camera angle... No, this picture was taken on 64 heading from Hayesville NC to Franklin NC, through the Nantahala National Forest on the way to the autocross event at Peachstate PCA Rennfest 2012. It was around 7:30 in the morning and very misty and foggy with a sea of clouds as you looked off the overlooks into the valley and the sun was setting the mountain tops on fire as it came up. There where even a couple of rainbows. I think I might have ran over a Care Bear... But seriously one of the most beautiful drives I have ever been on.

Washed, vacuumed and waxed The Grey Ghost, then covered it so it wouldn't get dirty (yesterday).

Trying to decide on tools and spare parts to carry for the journey to Beaver.

This took place in the last two days. Sorry for slacking.

1) Had a great guy named Lonnie cut the rectangular opening in the bumper (radiator inlet) and cut/extend/weld the shift rod. He asked for $85 for both jobs, but I gave him $100. His work was beautiful! If anyone needs a small (or big) welding job done in SoCal, Lonnie's shop is Action Welding in Anaheim. 714 632-8669. He might not be able to do it right away, but he'll fit you in.

2) Hooked up shift linkage. Took three tries to get the whole thing indexed properly. Shift action is sweet with new bushings & fresh grease.

3) Burped the cooling system for the 10th time. I think I'm almost done.

4) Cut engine cover mesh (went through about seven Dremel cut-off wheels) to fit in bumper opening. Bumperette backing plate makes a nice clamp to hold it in place. Finished the inside edges with clear silicone so the mesh doesn't move around. Almost left the "PORSCHE" letters on the mesh, but decided it would look too cheesy.

5) Drove it around for the first time!! Just a couple laps of the neighborhood. No exhaust system yet, so it sounded like the Pomona Winternationals. Off the muffler shop next week for the final touch. I'm pumped! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Installed and rewired the console voltage gauge. Works great.
Found the the spotwelds on the engine cover hinges had let go. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
They'll have to be drilled out and rewelded.

Went to DMV and applied for SP plates.

Did you have a chance to gauge your MPG yet?

Good for you that he didn't show up! Must have been his day of and OT wasn't approved. I get paid to go regardless. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

I've decided to once again try and sell off my Mercedes project to devote time/money to my 914 6 conversion project.
Does that count?

Started putting the trailing arms back on after Eric put in the poly bushings. Shaft turns by hand after greasing thru the zerk fittings. NICE!! Thanks to Eric for his nice work.
Had everything all laid out with everything accounted for and all tools needed ready and near. Started putting them on and got to the dust shield and one of the washers was missing. It was there before. Put a flat washer with a touch of bolt lock on it for that one only.Got it back together except for installing the axle and adjusting the brake venting clearance. Driver's side only. My back is killing me!! Oh yea, found the washer, it was on the car cover. How the XXXX it got up there I have no idea!

Off to the muffler shop. Gotta love AAA; I called and the flatbed rig was there in about 20 minutes. Once on the rig, I noticed how low my 914's front ride height is...looks a little too Pro Street, so I think I'll raise it up another 1/2" or so.

Just need to re-bleed brakes, one last bleed for the cooling system, and then drive the suckah!! (with fire extinguisher at the ready, just in case).
