Finally was able to polish out the deck lid of the '75 today. The Omni line it was shot it looked wet when it was fresh but after a few months it almost looked like was shot to dry. It wasn't though, just the way the clear coat cured.
Cut it back 2500, the 3000 grit sand paper, used compound and a polish and then a coat of S100 carnauba wax.
I was a bit concerned at first because I had heard that the Omni line clear coat was really hard and didn't cut or polish very well but this went very nice.
Next week, I'll do the front lid, it's suffering from the same thing.

One of the things I'm working on is trying to make my car shift better. I was clicking the gears through on this trans and noticed slop in neutral. So I looked through the hole where the console mounts and noticed a fair sized gap on the rods where the fork (?) drops in and moves the rod to shift gears. I had an extra fork so I thought I'd try something.
I welded blobs onto the fork and ground them into a shape. Don't know if it will work, it will bug me all night but I ran out of light.

This is how much I am adding. I can barely move my hands so this will go slow.

Didn’t fit, had to shave the sides down. With it fitting I got the slop down to less than a 1/16”.

No I’m in the desert so it is warm here. I sat it in the sun for a bit and used a wire feed. Once I’m happy I’ll do my best to harden the piece.

Ok, I’m happy. Now I need to harden this puppy. I will try to just heat the tangs and sacrifice a fresh quart of oil for the quenching. It was fun, can’t use my hands for now.

Thanks! @930cabman - No sun exposure, just hadn't been polished since it was painted and there was a lot of orange peel in it. If I can get to the front lid this weekend, I'll be very happy but, life interrupts a lot of things......
