What’s your go-to punch & flare tool? I’m thinking about doing that on some stuff and suggestions for new tools are always appreciated

These look cool, but I don't quite understand why you would do it. I always thought the inside brake shield was to prevent water, rocks, debris, etc from getting to the inside rotor surface.

I use these simple dies, which I got off of Amazon and a harbor freight stand up press.

Disk brakes by design are self cleaning, it’s a stone guard for sure. The biggest hole is 1”, that is a fairly small stone to worry about rotor damage. One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of brake dust gets caught inside the guard, i had to use a scraper to clean it. I would think that the brake dust would disperse like it does on the front. Probably would if it had any air flow, so where is the rotor cooling coming from? And that is the reason I did this. A lot of people just leave them off but I liked this better for the protection. Might have shaved a few grams in the process.

Today I managed to get the interior all back in, hooked up the new speed-o cable, nstalled the new gearshift lever from JWest, and adjusted the shifter close to final position.

I managed to locate all of the bulbs that are used for illumination on the gauges and replace them with LED bulbs. I didn't bother with warning or indicator lights. I just want to see better at night even though I don't drive much in the dark. The photograph shows them brighter than they actually are, but they are much better than before.

I also attached a photo showing the original bulb, the LED that did not work (Too short?) and the LED that did work.

Can't believe this thread was on page 6!!

My early '71 got moved into the shop to start its restoration!! Small shop in Iowa near my hometown which mainly does 356's that go all over the world. They did my '73 11 years ago (and it was in a story about them in 000 a few years ago!)

Had the car since new in 11/70. Converted all the suspension to 6 specs back in the early '80's, so now the 6 engine/ tank etc will be fitted...

Feel like a kid on Christmas morning!Attached Image

Replaced 100 amp circuit breaker with a 150 amp circuit breaker. The 100 amp breaker went off at around 60 amps with my electric AC compressor. The 150 amp breaker goes off around 105 amps. My electric AC draws between 45-65 amps. Pays to read the reviews on Amazon when buying this cheap crap. I also couldn’t figure out why my clutch was stiffer with the 3.6 versus the 3.2. Turns out I made the bend to tight with the clutch cable under the car. Removed the clamp on the motor and had my daughter push the clutch pedal to see where the cable wanted to go. Secured the cable at that position. Much better now. Same now as the 3.2. Live and learn….
