My drive train is literally scattered all over a Las Vegas mechanic's shop. Other than writing checks, I'm personally not doing much of anything. I'm a cook, not a mechanic after all. You want an animal butchered, I'm your guy. Replace a clutch and throw-out bearing, not so much.

But the mechanic has given me a tour of what's wrong. "Here's why your flywheel needs to be replaced. This clutch, gone." Et cetera.

This is the second time in my life I've had someone replace the flywheel and clutch in a 914. The first time, it cost $800 total, with labor. Now, it's just *slightly* higher. (ugh.)

Replaced that leaking trans output seal. I hope it holds.

Thanks to Euro911 for the help and use of the lift and general friendship too.

Allocated some parts: tid bits of odds and ends needed for my car by helping Glenn and Garold strip an organ donor.

Lots of fun. What an odd and rusted 914 it was.

May it Rest In Peace.

...tear tear

...it will live on thru so many others though.

Also picked up some nice bumpers from Garold mine are dented up a bit and I am getting away from bumperettes now that I no longer live inside Chicago and Garolds are without bumperette holes. Smooooooth.

Drove up to Santa Barbara Saturday morning through the pouring rain (I always do roadtrips in the rain.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) ) then drove back today. It was a good time, but the 914 was not happy about the wet weather...

Pulled spray bar plugs to look for junk - found none. Tried to tap holes for plug and my cheapass Lowes tap wrench stripped. So back to Lowes I go to get another. 'Course Lowes is the size of a small city and once you get inside, the plumb dept is in another zip code. Look around - no tap wrench. Must be in tool dept. Hike over there. Scour tool dept. No tap wrench. Bump into tool dept employee "we don't carry tap wrenches anymore". Off to Sears. Get same tap wrench as Lowes. Manage to tap 4 holes w/o strip. Asking alot these days, I know.

Hi Edwin, its very cool to see another Saab guy on here. Before I even noticed your location, I knew you had to be over seas as we didn't get the 900 Aero designation state side. Our version was called the SPG. My 900 convertible is a Springtime In Sweden edition (1 of 288). Basically just SPG/ Aero panels, wheels, and Buffalo grey interior. I have a few engine modifications (Swedish Dynamics t3/t4 hydrid turbo, 24lb hr. injectors, RRFPR, and a Groupe 6 Stage III APC box). 2nd gear traction is almost non existant at WOT (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I have a few other Saabs too. I guess its a sickness (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Any work done to your 900 Aero?

And to keep the thread on track, and I measured where I need to weld in the braces on the 914. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

With weather getting colder, I started driving with my top on. With the top on, I started hearing my right rear wheel bearing which I could not hear with the top off. I took it to mechanic and he replaced it. He said he a "secret process" where he does not remove the axle. (He probably just got a BFH!) Anyway, coming home today it was real quiet with the new bearing!

Here is picture of the fried bearing! No wonder it was loud! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'm hoping there isnt much rust left to be removed but i know i'll find it.
Floorpans off and hell hole open.
Rear suspension mounts need to be changed too
Ed the aero is pretty stock now. Had bigger injectors reg and apc but now I just run standard and slight boost mod on APC. The injectors were needed in the 914

My nephew, Jeremy, is back with us for the holiday. We hit a couple of Pick-A-Part yards this morning and did some reorganizing at the shop this evening.

Looks like we'll be able to stash three more cars in the shop now (four more if we utilize the lift). Hope to start filling up the new found space on Friday (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Happy Thanksgiving to all ...
