I've driven her for about 1 mile from the house and back again since installing the engine for the first time since I first took ownership of the car. I worked on the Tachometer and tail lights last night. I kind of got the tach working but based upon my wiring connecting the tach wire to the coil made the engine miss and run rougher. So...there seems to be a missconnection or grounding short somewhere. Or I wonder if there is no 12V going to one of the tach input terminals that appears to require that?

Hi Doug,

Actually it's not the teen who did that to the lawn. It's the other cars. Now I have to put more water on it before my landlord visit. Hehehe

Finally getting over my cold and got to go over the shop for a bit. Moved some of my stuff around and moved more of my nephew Jeremy's stuff in (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Did a little more clean up on the '72, then ran up to Westchester High to enroll Jeremy in our evening auto shop class.

I'm pooped (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif)

So getting close to putting the engine back and decided to get rid of the heavy and manky sound proofing against the firewall. Don't know if any of you have used this stuff but it is a bit of a trick handling it over the various contours with it's self adhesive backing. Looks really good in the car-not sure how this pic will come out.

I stared into the void where my gear stack used to be. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Re-geared stack should be back in 2-3 weeks, but I'm already missing the quick blast around the block I'd take every couple of days.

Peter (0396) stopped into the shop this morning and we BS'd about Porsches and BMWs for a while.

Later, Jeremy and I exposed more clean metal on the '72. Trying not to remove the door-ding filler spots. There's a lot of original (fast) yellow paint on the door. Driver side is almost done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I go in for some more shots in my back tomorrow. Hopefully I can get back to the shop again on Friday (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

You guys keep up the good work, it keeps me motivated (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

Drove her to work! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

After having pulled the engine this past weekend to clean up a main seal leak, and then having my dizzy cap come off last night, I wasn't sure I would pull it off. But she's running nicely.

@Euro911 - give me a call tomorrow and let me know how stuff goes!

Somehow the fan had come loose from the hub. There is a bolt that holds it on, so it is something I will be checking from now on.

More worrisome was the woodruff key. It was too small; like it had been worn. And the fan hub had some damage near the slot for the woodruff key. So I swapped out the hub, and the woodruff key. I also used a different fan bolt from one of my other engines.

I plan to check that bolt over the weekend, and then at oil changes. So fingers crossed.

Did you blue loctite on the hub bolt? I noticed the woodruff key on a type 1 gen/alt look the same as that hub key but a tad smaller. Did the crank slot get boogered up?

I may have used red loctite, but can't recall for sure.

Crank end was fine. Which made me happy.
