QUOTE(pnewman @ Jan 27 2013, 05:00 PM) *

Doug, MrBubblehead

Doug wanted me to mention that he and I thought it would be important to recognize the ground post that could be utilized for the third brake light wiring in this instance without cutting into the stock harness. It is located in the engine compartment below the circuit board on the drivers side. Not necessarily easily accessible for all (Doug is running a dry-sump) but it would give you an opportunity to clean the grounds there and add a little dielectric grease while you are there adding the additional ground. Good PMCS (Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services. I give my military background away sometimes.)

Thanks for posting the details of your 3rd brake light as well as the routing. That is a huge safety feature! Especially when considering that all cars have a 3rd brake light as standard equipment. Younger drivers might not think that we are braking without it.

I am still on the fence as to how I want to proceed but a 3rd brake light is definitely in my cars future.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Thanks again & safe driving! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif)
Thanks for posting about that ground post. I forgot to mention it. mine is conveniently located under my oil sump. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)
I see your a believer in dielectric grease also. Thats one thing my car doesnt have are mysterious electrical issues. When I buy a keeper the first thing i do is go thru with a wire brush, contact cleaner, and a tube of dielectric grease and clean every electrical connection. It only takes a few hours to to the whole car. Time well spent in my opinion. I also solder and heat shrink every splice. I'll be damned if Im gonna leave my precious on the side of the road and walk. If I can help it anyways...

Finally put my "new" gas tank back together. Refinished everything (that was fun!). All new fasteners, new sender, deals, etc. Only thing left is to find the interior "fabric" nipple seals and we're ready to put it in the 914.

Yeah, I should have addressed the engine compartment grounds when the drive train was out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) ... it's a pain getting to that one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I drove it, yesterday that is. We had a big rain storm that melted all the snow and cleared the roads of salt, so I took it for a good spin. Better than letting it sit.

Started mine. Short drive (5 miles). Put it away. No rain day in Seattle with 53 degrees was all I needed for a SIX FIX.

Oh...picked up my daughter, so she was surprised I pulled up in the SIX. Made her day too.

Nice that your daughter likes your car. One member here picked up his daughter from school in his rather nice '6' conversion, and she told him she was embarrassed - because it was an 'old car' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I woulda (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif) her silly

Put in new carpet set, tried to get bolts off rear shocks but can't seem to find right sized wrench. Back and forth to Sears twice and still haven't found the right one.

Drove mine to work today. Met a guy at Mc Donald's who was waiting for me to come out after breakfast. He told me that he is a second owner of a original /6 in black. He lives close to my work an will bring it by in the next several weeks to show me. He was wearing a 356 club hat and also has a speedster. I will post pics we he stops by my work.

Are you going to build a single intake filter housing?

At this stage I'm going with 2 like the 356 or 912
Standard chrome filter cage and filters under these so as simple as undoing the wingnut and slide the cover off
Want it to be water proof more than anything but also a bit quieter for long trips

Definitely don't want to 'rain' on your parade, looks cool and you've got the talent to build the covers, just wondering if you've you looked at CB Performance's enclosed top covers? (in their 'turbo' section)

Attached Image

I'm thinking your covers must be larger to accommodate filters inside? ... not sure if CB's covers allow for that or not (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
...

Started Install of a Boxster S six speed Transaxle in my LS1/914.
Got one side of the mounting done before I had to go back to work. It looks like I can use 930 cv joints with a standard length 911 axle.

No probs there euro
I've seen the cb covers and I don't think you can use a filter inside those hats
I've been wanting to have a play with making these for a while. It's a good excuse to pull out the tig again and brush up on my skills there
Also shipping to this side of the world is stupid
