Took my 3 year old 2.0 case project to Rimco for extra work. Being that I'm a newbie to these, I asked them to machine x. Well, what I asked for cut through the case....HE- - , if these guys " were' the experts, WHY in the world did they not worn me that it was not possible! Now I have to spend another $150 for some weld up job....and then they are " suppose" to recheck the case to see if the welding did not distort the case! Ya, experts! Sorry for the rant and they sold me a line bore, over size bearings , tap plugs....etc. sorry for the rant

Poked around the hell hole area because it looked too good to be true, and some silver duct tape was peeking through. Not unexpected.

One wack and it all came flying loose.

Why ??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

The longs, engine mounts, and suspension points look decent, and hey someone even sprayed some primer ?

So much for my rust free tub (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

Barry's old car. Scotty B took a look at one of the pictures Barry sent me and said the inside rear wheel well looked odd. I passed on the shell. Still doesn't look to bad if the price was right.

Floors, longs, consoles, motor mounts all look good. It has had some repairs done but they appear to be strong repairs.
Door gaps are nice, trunk good.

Today I went on drive to Glendora Mountain road. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Enjoyed the twisties but car still not 100%. Got to east fork and stopped to admire the view and the gremlins attack the the car wouldn't turn over. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Waited for 30 minutes fiddled with the battery cables finally decided to push start and went straight home.
I still consider it a good day. Even though the carbs were acting funny and the car wouldn't start.

Just picked up my 75, 2.0 which has just had the heads re torqued and the valves adjusted following a rebuild and a 1000km run in. My mechanic had set the timing at 30 degress ( as for Beetles which he works on a lot ) so we brought that back to 27 and leaned the mix up a bit and it now runs like a dream. Can't believe the difference a few minor tweaks make.

Just want to jump in it and drive all day instead of sitting here at work!!!!!1

I completed my goal... Got it running in time for Monday so I could drive my own car to work.

The best advice I ever got about these cars was to never ride or drive a 914-6.. I didn't listen, and man do these get expensive quick..

Still need to do some carb tuning and I need to wire in the msd box, but for now, I can drive the 5 miles to work no problem.

Here's what I did over the last couple of days. Gauges had old faded and scratched lenses so I new glass cut for them. The brake warning light plastic face had warped and shrunk over the years too so I made a new face with plexiglass and got a small piece of red vinyl sign material to place behind it. Also used a small piece at the fuel empty window. It was also faded badly and had warped. Found the tach bezel to be either brass or bronze. Either way couldn't get paint to stick well so I took it all off and I think I like the oddball bezel being in the middle.
Didn't take long to do any of it, just slow and tedious like anything else. I think it cam out pretty well.

I've dropped the upper and lower dash pads to get repaired at a local upholstery shop. The upper is getting repaired and re wrapped in black vinyl with fine yellow stitching similar to what would have been done on leather wrapped 911 dash. The lower just has one crack and the guy thinks he can fix and dye to match new upper.......time will tell! Hope to have it back the end of this week.

Put the white car up on blocks, ordered everything for an oil change and tune up, need to get my tuna can installed, adjust the valves and get her ready for a 4000 mile trip leaving the 28th. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)
