Drove it to church last weekend for church men and women fellowship and finally my wife enjoyed the ride. Heading to church with top on and heading back home with top off already.

Took the car down to the ocean to go clamming this weekend. Weather was nice enough for a top-off cruise home. 6 more weeks of what?

Just posting mine so my teen can say hi to another teen with riv wheels. Nice view along the beach. I remember when I'm still in college and drove my dad's classic Benz on the same distance to the seashore, the rear tires got stock half of the wheels after a few waves dig a hole under the tires.

Dropped some stuff off to get machined with George at EMW. Drove the 'BB' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Went back to the shop, pulled the 1 remaining EMPI wheel off of Dianne's car and packed the set up for shipping off to Maryland (2 boxes, 63 # each) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Then turned my attention to the Bug again. It looks like the PO installed a new M/C and the right rear wheel cylinder, but they don't work well without pumping the pedal, so I started bleeding the brakes. Got the rears all done, but can't get the fronts to grab (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) ... I'll try bleeding at the M/C and see if that fixes the problem (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

But what I saw was Attached Image Attached Image

A project in the making, so I paid a few dollars and shipped it home

And then I got busy at work and it had to sit, waiting for me

Progress. I have seen that bare metal before

I drove it, Drove it and enjoyed the heck out of driving it, Yesterday I drove it. The car was wonderful and it was beautiful outside and in the evening when I got it home a gentle snow was drifting around as I put it away. I would have posted Yesterday that the day day before I repacked the wheel bearings, changed the oil and adjusted the venting on the brakes, however I was busy driving it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Wait........ I think I'll go drive it some more. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Then I'll look for something else it might need.

Ran across some boxes of neat stuff I acquired a while back:

1 A set of A&P speaker pods with Blaupunkt 6" speakers I bought from Kevin (rhodyguy) ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

(maybe I'll install the new carpet kit while I've got the old pods out) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

2. The LED dash gauges that Tim (timothy_nd28) upgraded (finally found the errant wiring harness), an early metal gauge plate
.... (that I'll repaint ) and substitute it for the funky plastic one, and install a set of SpunOne's gauge rings (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

3. An Engman fuse box (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

... and

4. A set of CAMP 914 rear trunk shox (so I can finally get rid of that old 2x4 the holds the lid open) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif)
...

no new pictures of the brake lines, but yesterday i pulled out the rear brake regulator because i could not get the old line off, bad angle to get the top one(driver's side) hard line off of it, took about an hour , but progress was made! new line attached regulator back in place- what a mess!!! undercoating everywhere on the regulator etc, even the bottom of the fan housing, So did they spray that on like that at the factory? must have been a dealer or aftermarket application to be all over everything like that!

- but replaced all the hard lines from both sides,
- put in new push rod tubes and seals on driver's side, both sides are now done!!
- installed new brake line clips,
- picked up my wheels- new tires mounted to my fuchs that are going the 5 lug conversion

- but- my lugs seem to be 1-2mm too long to really tighten down my rims good, so i guess i bought the wrong lug nuts-they are like caps, maybe not quite deep enough?

-kind of a bummer they are really nice alloy porsche lug cap/nuts! , so one setback , but hoping to mount the left side suspension and the set the valves this weekend, finish the left side mounting of the brake calipers, bleed rear brakes, set rear brake venting - then drive a bit , put her back up to do the front!!

i'd have to check, they were put in by Eric, at PMB for the group buy last year, so they should be right for fuchs i would think. Eric has the same 14" fuchs, mine came off of a '70 914/6 owned by Luke M. I put in an inquiry to Eric but i have not heard back, i'm sure i will soon. its so close, but i was looking at the hubs and it does not look like you could put them in further, but i might be wrong. i would say maybe 3mm is all . i did find some 5mm spacers but i am kind of leary of using them. Back 30 years ago i had a '69 Healey sprite that had flares and oversized tires(set up for A/X) and the P.O. had put in some shims, when i went to do the brakes, after putting them back in they worked loose, i had not rechecked them and as they loosened the wheel locked up, bolts sheared off and the rear end dropped to the ground, on a highway on-ramp! and there went these nice shine discs rolling down the road past me, LOL! funny now, no major damage, but it sucked then. anyway i am sure it can be safe i just think it might be partly why they loosened up on me.

i will measure tonight when i get home and maybe i will hear from eric by then.

Drove my teener to my favorite BBQ place for lunch. It is only open three days a week: Thursday thru Saturday. When they run out of BBQ on Saturday, they close early! You gotta love the name! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif)

Mark,

took a quick look this morning, and with the rotor in place the lugs stick out
about 1&9/16, just over 1.5".
Eric said he could sent over different length ones, but that would be a pain and i'd have to wait for those to come. or if i have enough room i could safely use a small spacer, so just for now my quickest two options are either,
A; get lug nuts that are open ended, or
B; use my closed ones with a 5mm spacer. I had 195/55/15 on the EMPI that i just took off, so since my fender lips are rolled in, i should be o.k. to run the fuchs with my 195/65's(14) and a 5mm spacer. i just want to get the car on the ground this weekend so that i can pull the front wheels to get then shipped out next week. will the local flaps have the proper thread lug nuts?

pjw
