I installed my new rear Braid 15x9 Fuchs repros with fresh Hoosiers. I was going to sell them but may be keeping the 16x9 Fuchs too, for the taller gearing effect. But the next event is short track (Streets of Willow).

I reduced the spacers slightly as I was getting a bit of rubbing on the left front and just a hair on the left rear. All 4 corners seem optimal now.

Also got the bulk of the install done for the Racepak G2X GPS data acq system/dash. Just have to zip-tie and tidy things up tomorrow.

After going to our local PCA chapter @ Bob Woodman's shop which included some good food, drink and many Porsche's , a nice tech session to prep for the next D.E. and track day, I went home and pulled the transmission, -

How come there were no 914s in those pix, Phil (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

Speaking of 914s, I did some more stuff to the Westy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Made a bracket for a couple of communications antennas - will mount this on the roof rack between the solar panels ...

Attached Image

I found an empty auxiliary battery tray and a battery transfer module under the rear seat. Tidied up the electrical connections, tested the operation, then installed an Odyssey battery and a 1500-watt power inverter - 'while I was in there' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Attached Image

The battery transfer modules automatically switches a charge between the main and auxiliary batteries. I will add another manual switch to charge the auxiliary battery from the solar panels when in the stationary mode.

Found a neat little cubby-hole behind the driver's seat too. Cleaned some debris out of it, carpeted it and installed a multi-band (HF/VHF/UHF) Amateur Radio in there. I'll remote-mount the display/control head to an appropriate location somewhere on the dash.

Attached Image

Gonna take a drive in the 'BB' tomorrow ... I promise (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Nice Mark!! I used to have a 2 meter rig in the glove compartment of my first 914 in the early 80's. I only have a multiband hand held now and an HF rig, that I need to connect back up someday. Too many hobby's and projects.

OMG I actually worked on it!!! After lots of (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif) and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif) and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) I was soooo burnt out from crawling under the damn thing I just left it alone for a couple months. Now I'm ready to put the seat mounts in so I started cleanin them up today. A slow restart but better than none at all. Way too long before I go (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) again.

Mark,
Love solar...wired an entire roof of a cabin with panels (old style from an Arco field updated). If you put a hinge on one side of the Vanagon brackets, you could create an adjustable slide on the other to angle the panels when camped...makes a big difference. Great update. Yesterday I loaded the white car and took it to McMarks shop in Sonoma, time to get the -6 engine mount welded in....an Original Customs mount.

Today I'm going to pull the clutch tube out of the parts car, there's a chance its not too rusted to reuse, we'll see. If nothing else it will give me a pattern to fabricate a new one.

But first, I have to take the wife to sacramento, looking at a new DD for her......a Subaru... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

I may do that down the road, Mark. I built the racks on the roof of my house with hinges and adjustable telescopic struts (14 years ago) ... I believe I still have some spare hinges.

I need to do a lot to the Westy before it's March 20th ~ 23rd inaugural run to the 'Burning Ham-III' event., so this will have to do for now. The pop-top has about a 25° angle (?) when deployed ... I'll try to park with the nose pointed north this trip (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Had to move the panels further out to accommodate the antenna bracket, so I removed them and made up the parallel wiring harness to size.

Attached Image

Reinstalled the panels in their new position ... and the antenna bracket.

Next, gotta do all the cable runs (and eventually, a bath) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Checked out the fridge yesterday too ... it works great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

Drove it.

80 plus degree here....So Cal.... GMR was open and I saw a slew of cool cars coming down the hill.

Best was what looked like a early yellow Carrera followed by a late model yellow Vette.

Saluted as I went by......unbelievable weather out here. It is starting to worry.

You guys back East need us to get a little bit of your weather here.

Sorry no pics.....I was busy driving.

I kept a 2meter rig in my 914 for years. Still have both the radio and the car, but not installed.

Nice bus, Chad. I used to have a '67 back in the 70's (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) - went with the wasser-boxer this time, easier to do either a 2.2 Subi or a 1.8L TDI conversion down the road.

Hey, you let your license lapse, Clay (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif)

We're hoisting a UHF repeater about 1300 feet into the air with a 8 ft diameter helium balloon for the the Burning Ham-III event.

Started it finally. Bit of an epic fail on my part though. I pulled the gas tank to put in SS fuel lines and kinked a hose. Took a bit to figure that one out! Pulled the tank and instant fuel. Have to put it all back together now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Got a good amount done this weekend!

Front trunk just about completed.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i187.photobucket.com-14487-1392746380.1.jpg)

Got the glove box and radio back in with a new face plate of brushed aluminum.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i187.photobucket.com-14487-1392746380.2.jpg)

Put Yellow tint on my headlights.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i187.photobucket.com-14487-1392746381.3.jpg)

And got some new replacement projector fog lights, yellow tinted them and fabricated some mounts for them.

Sprayed my muffler with Rust-oleum High Heat paint. Drove it today for the first time in 10 days because of snow and crappy weather. Even took the top off! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I did my seasonal tire swap due to rains FINALLY settling in along the California Coast.
Off came the 205/50 Dunlop Star Spec Z1 summer tires
Bolted up the 195/65 Firestone M/S rated tires, and riding high again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif)
AND drove from Pt Reyes to Marin Headlands, back home to Pt Reyes, then up to Tomales Pt and back! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I installed a triad muffler on it this morning then proceeded to drive it to work. What a difference! I'm so much happier with the sound.
