found a fuel leak below one of the injectors....
time for new injector seals and fuel hoses.
amazing that over half the fuel line connections still had factory metal band clamps.
the small injector seals were really perished...it's back together now and runs good !! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) .Attached Image

Have you determined that it is indeed a bus motor, or if it was just build with a bus case?

Did you guys try to bore scope it to see what pistons it has?

At least it isn't BUS-ted and you can still drive it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

Let me know if you need another motor ... I have a couple of spare long blocks (a 1.8 and a 2.0) that I'd like to sell (at reasonable prices) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

thx Mark, no the motor is good; actually I have a receipt from the previous owner that it is a rebuilt 2.0 motor in there...just never hit my head to check if it's a bus or not. Thought it just had the 1.7 heads on it.

Leamon says the engine number on the back is the key; different spot than 914 motor i guess.

So were guessing the PO just replaced the whole thing with a bus motor rather than swapping out the internals.

It's been running ruf so doing a valve job and weber adjustment.

Do you have a winch up front, Bob?

Nice to know a flared-car fits OK ... my trailer is only 7' wide too.

... which reminds me, I need to run some more wiring for lighting and close up the ceiling. The trailer is so close to completion, yet still far away (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Someone is coming to look at the '67 Bug tomorrow, so I headed down to the shop to check on it. Luckily, it was still there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

It wouldn't start, so put it on the charger.

Whist there, I rummaged around and grabbed some 2.0L '6' P&Cs, heads and cam shafts to drop off at the machine shop for tolerance checking, machining and/or polishing as needed.

Also found a few boxes of 2.2L '6' parts - 6 complete heads, both cam chain housings with covers, complete set of valve covers, and a Marelli S112AX (20°) dizzy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

This 2.2L came out of a 'Sport-o-matic car

Also found a box with 3 bare heads dated 5/67 that THOMAS gave me a few years ago. Gonna clean everything up and post 'em in the classifieds.

Let me know if you're interested in any of these parts. They won't be dirt cheap, but reasonable priced (except for the Marelli) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

Watched the Pumpkin go down the street. What a sight. she sure is pretty. I was standing in the drive as my friend took her around the block. I pulled a muscle and can't push in clutch pedal. The smile on my face was almost as good as when i am behind the wheel.

Hung out at the shop for several hours today (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Cleaned up the interior of the '67 Bug, as a prospective buyer was scheduled to take a peek at it today.

Cataloged and hot-tanked some '6' motor parts.

Weighed and measured some F&R 5-lug suspension components so I can price shipping for an interested party.

Later that same day: Sold the Bug for $2,200. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif)

Also, looked at Dianne's 1.7L. Need to drain the oil and start disassembling it for failure analysis and evaluation. I think the cam bearings are shot, as valve adjustments have always been 'iffy'. I'm anxious to finally get to see what her motor really is, since several people refuse to believe it's a stock 1.7 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Then Richard (Type 4 Unleashed) will gather up what it will need and complete the long block rebuild. Note to self: Need to resist Richard's suggestion to 'build it bigger', as I would like to keep it as close to stock as possible, and continue to run the OEM D-jet FI.

Also talked with my body/paint guy today ... going to get an estimate for minor metal work and paint on her car. I want to rebuild the suspension system before paint, so I'd better round up everything it'll need. I think we just need to purchase rear bushings, already have the front stuff, including a 17mm anti-sway bar (with Engman/Mad Dog reinforcement plates), and new PMB calipers for all 4 corners (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

went visit my 914, at the shop, where it has been getting my old a-arms, tie rods and ball joints removed, and all new put in, including new repowdercoated a-arms with new bushings from Bruce stone . I have not had time so Bob Woodman here in Beaufort and of course George, his "retired" Porsche mechanic, put on my new parts, turbo tie rods included, and all aligned!!! under side of the car looks like brand new. Brakes are bled, but George is a picky you-know-what and was not satisfied with theplay in the shift linkage- so he's replacing the bushing that are in the center tunnel - oh, and he also set the valves- they were on the tight side, but timing is not perfectly set at this time, because my TDC mark is gone!- so I have a question, what is the best way to mark it? -
I am going to be ready for DE day at Robeling Road in Sept., AND Octeenerfest too!!!! pretty excited as I have missed the last 2 events, but this time I am pretty sure I will be there. Next item up is to get my door locks and handles fixed.

- one other question-how do you tighten up the steering column? it has a bit of up and down play to it?

Four bolts under the column.
