i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.

i'll start,

about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today?

yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup.

what did you do to your 914 today?

Saturday, sold the 5-lug F&R suspension components (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Some might say I was asking way too much for these parts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Also, treated some surface rust in the 'BB's battery tray and sprayed with 'Rust Reformer' ...

... will install the new Interstate battery on Sunday morning, wash the car and take her for a long overdue drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

UPDATE:

Sunday, was going to drive it out to the Chino Hills Pizza Company for lunch, but misplaced my key (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

So I took the Tacoma, and the clutch gave up the ghost about half way home (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

No pics, yet, but I worked on my numbers/graphics quite a bit yesterday. New numbers on the doors which had to be repainted recently, new windshield banner which I'll probably re-do, and some cool vintage supplier/sponsor decals.

After looking everywhere I thought I may have lost my key, I ended up calling the store where I bought the battery on Friday.

Guess what ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif)

Good thing too, because I don't have a spare one (yet) ...

Went to DMV and got title and registration. Now I can really drive it and figure out how many expensive noises it's going to make. It was over 100 degrees so there wasn't too much opportunity. Maybe tomorrow.

I spent the last two nights cleaning up my rims. Original rims that haven't been cleaned in 12+ years. I was shocked at how well they looked. Attached Image

Took my '73 out to Rocky Neck Park to test out the Weber's that were worked on... no white smoke, car ran really well once east of New Haven and out of traffic. Not painted yet... way behind schedule in that department. Forgot to take a photo when out there... oh well.... finally getting some mileage in.. 130 RT. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif)
Oh yeah, car is much smoother when frozen struts are replaced with ones that move up and down..... much more comfortable....

Well, I left some HAM radio equipment on in the Tundra for a couple of days and drained the battery. So, the new battery I bought for the 'BB' got redirected (since it my wife's grocery getter) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Gonna see if the Tundra battery can be 'saved' (it's been on a really smart charger for a day now) or if it needs to be replaced with a new one as well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Hoping It takes a good charge so I can swap the new battery into the 'BB this w/e (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

Then I'll clean all the dust off and maybe drive it up to see a friend at Big Bear Lake (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Finished installing the new battery tray in my white car.
Boxed up the rear calipers so they can be sent off to PMB.
Engine is on the work table for a oil pump reseal
Added new Magnecor plug wires.
Started rehoseing the engine fuel injection when I found one of my NEW (less than 4 years old) fuel injectors had a memory crack in the attached hose. So off all 4 came.
I had them rebuilt thru GB Manufacturing 4 years ago. They perform great. But once the engine goes back in they'll be forgotten.
So I'm going to send an order to Chris at Tangerine Racing for a new set.
We also did some research on the plumbing of the fuel pump to a new 2 port. I really like the way some folks have it in the front spare tire wheel well. Gas tank is out and on the other table.

All in all, a good day. Drove the 911 home so I can AX this weekend.
