Went on a rust hunt and didn't have to go too far.

Looked in the Hell hole surface rust only but I will need to get a shop vac before attempting any work for that. Then the part I was not looking forward to the door sills always felt just a bit crunchy so I removers the cover panel and the rust was quite evident. Took some pictures so every one can say "that's not so bad" and really in the grand scheme of things it isn't. I did hit it with some of that phosphoic acid and scotch brite and it is going to dry before I put some paint on it. I will need to do some repair but I will have to learn mig welding before I start the repair. Scotty thank you for your input Attached Image

Checked the 'BB's front and rear trunks for parts that I never removed from April's swap meet. Sat in it for several minutes to re-familiarize myself with the interior, and pealed the tint off the driver side window (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Loaded up the Westy except for a couple of minor items I need to grab from the shop for tomorrow's event (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Chasing the cause of my irregular idle issue.
first I replaced the cht. Then I pulled the air cleaner to check the air temp sensor, this was not on tight . That made a big difference! Still had some rough running,
the part load a/f was shoing it was running really lean so I adjusted the MPS after checki g it for vac leak - held at 10 no loss of vaccuum and this seems to have really smoothed it out the rest of the way..so I took it ofr a 15 mile drive with my 10 year old daughger- ran flawlessly. Part load was 12.5-13 a/f ratio. Idle is running about 11.

Oh AND I got my dipstick thermometer today!!!!!! Installed and found my temps running at 210 , my gauge inside was indicating 185.

Hey Pneuhyde!

We're practically neighbors as I'm in Oakland close to Mills. Anyhow, where did you find the rubber windshield seal? I've not seen one of those before. My windshield was glued in with aluminum trim pieces around the outside.

Drove it to Cars & Coffee in Carlsbad, CA. Was wearing this shirt.

Later went to watch World Series Game 4 at a local bar. Surprisingly, quite a few people noticed the shirt and started asking me about 914s.

I sure hope Andy doesn't sue me for wearing this shirt. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Today, on my '74 I replaced a badly trashed up fuel filter with a generic $5 new one and the car seems to be running better. Also replaced the fuel level sender with a new one and now my fuel gauge works!! That's a real plus! And I replaced the passenger side headlight that died a couple weeks ago. Was a good day and now with beautiful weather on the horizon this week, i'll be doing (hopefully) a lot of open air driving (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The gas tank has set for a week drying as per POR15 insructions. It sat for the week with a hair dryer blowing on medium heat. So I stirred up the sealer as per instructions. Don't shake, it causes air bubbles. Put the holes plugs back in and we're ready to go.
Attached Image
I used a funnel/screen to pour it into the tank. Screen caught any air bubbles that I created by stirring.
Attached Image
After flipping and twisting for about a 1/2 hour everything was coated to my liking. Took some doing to get the funnel baffle coated just right. Then I went to making sure all the excess was drained out. I read all the failure horror stories. It wouldn't all come out the bottom, the holes in the funnel baffle are too high up the sides. So I went to flipping it over. It took some doing to find the exact angle so it would drain out. And I still had to run my finger around the filler bung to pull the sealer over the inside bung rim 4 or 5 times. I did put the bolts back in so the threads didn't seal up.
Attached Image
Final result. Now it will sit for 5 days with the hair dryer blowing on medium heat before being reinstalled. Time will tell if it was worth the time, effort and $$.

I also painted the rear brake pistons as per Eric's video.

I have the rear splash guards drying after a little welding and primer. Can't decide on the color? Black, brass or silver.

I'm on vacation this week. Need some R&R before the impending Albertsons/Safeway merger explosion. So I'll be over here this week.
