Pulled the engine out. Oh boy, now I have a lot of work to do. Clean everything, intake stud repair, new hoses and complete tune up, and then a little rust repair on the battery tray and hell hole.

Dug out the last remaining 616 (912) motor from the garage and loaded it up in the Vanagon to deliver to the shop. I had EMW repair the exhaust port on the left-bank head a couple of years ago, but never got around to reassembling it.

I had planned to stuff it in my wife's '67 bug, but ended up changing plans (sold the bug because it required too much body work).

I'll find another use for it - or sell it, if it's worth a lot more than what I have into it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

Made up some new battery cable using the old ends from existing cable. Bought 2 close out long cable for less than $10 on the internet. Heated up the brass ends and pulled out cable. I spread the ends with a chisel, inserted new cable, crimped in the vise and reheated the brass to let the soldier flow for a good connection

Finally, I have a parking brake. New cables from Pelican, easy install. I now have all new brakes, I don't always have to leave the car in gear and worry about it rolling back.

Started tearing my wife's motor apart and can confirm it IS a 1.7L - pulled the heads and measured the pistons (90mm, slightly-domed). They actually look pretty clean too (inside) - hmmm (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

I may need to source one good Mahle barrel, cyl #1 has some broken fins at the top (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Started going to my auto shop class again - tonight started the new semester. I threw some greasy parts in the solvent tank and blasted some tins (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Same thing today as the last four days. Installing Mikey's windshield to dash strip has required a bit of training. It doesn't have the metal teeth that held the OEM strip in place so I have to silicone a 12" section, one section at a time. Otherwise it wants to "leap" off in places. A good gasket, just needed some training. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Windshield goes in next. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Went to drive it the liquor store today and it will not start. Aaargh! It has been dependable since I purchased it January and now this. Fuel pump primes, engine cranks, but will not start.

Had driven it maybe 60 miles on Easter Sunday - all good and just parked it when I got home.

I will check all the usual things (air, fire, fuel) and see what the deal is.

Sold my 70 flared roller (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . Left in trailer this morning. Having the extra space will be nice eventually. Once the hole in my heart plugs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif)

Shit Sticks! Went out to install the windshield only to find the Pinch Weld primer was congealed. Another 4 days parked in the garage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fyou1.gif)

647]Road bicycle rack finally completed. I had a bunch of parts laying around and finally got around to fabricating a bike rack. Now I can ride in both of my favorite forms of transportation. Basically used metal brackets from an old garage door opener, aluminum plate, aluminum angle, and lots of allen head screws. Still need to trim off the angle and rattle can the entire thing black. Looks like Rube Goldberg, but I did a test run and its pretty sold. Oh, yeah, the bike cost about the same price as the car.

That is too damn cool. Mind if I borrow that design idea?

On the advice of some other folks here, I loosened the screw holding the driver's side door handle trim in place and now I can open my door from the inside again!
