Going for a few errands and I asked my daughter what car to use, mom's Benz or sister's cooper. She answered dad's car!

It's good to get them started early, before they start liking SUV's and pick ups.

No offense to drivers of pick ups and SUVs. I'm just saying...

I sat on the side of the road with mine yesterday as the clutch cable snapped on my way back to work from lunch. Already ordered the heavy duty one from Patrick Motorsports so it should be on its way!

Drove the 'BB' to my auto shop class Wed night ... wanted to re-balance the front wheels - I lost the weights during spirited driving on the RT-66 run (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Also adjusted the clutch a few clicks and retarded the timing a couple of degrees.

Had enough time left-over to blast some parts for my 912 project (been sitting idle since 1988). Only had time to braze a broken heater cable tube and blast one of the head-pipe/heat exchangers.

Today, washed and dried it, then painted it with Rustoleum 2000° Rust Reformer paint. Hoping to get the other one blasted next week (shop class is only one night a week) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Every little bit is a step forward (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Drove the '73 as far as it's gone since restoration... awaiting camber shims from Chris (Tangerine) as the back looks like a swing axle beetle suspension, but otherwise feels nice and tight. Next is gettting the headlights to work... someday it will be done, but have to get my eldest son married off next week!

Started to layout the 2 rear Genesis on-board airjacks.
I'll mill out some top brackets tomorrow, then final up the lower supports + weld in place. Attached Image

What color is that? It's a beautiful blue for sure. Enjoy your time with your daughter.

Yes I do enjoy my time with my two daughters a 9 and 7 yrs. old. I'm actually 24/7 taking care of them since they were born. I was not able to work as an employee since we have the 1st child.

Well the 75 1.8 914 I believed is a midnight blue, I got the car like that and even the previous owner is not sure what is the color code. That is why i can't repair some body paint since I dont have the color code. The car looks okay on a 20 feet distance.

Thank you and God Bless!

This is how it looks like from the previous owner's driveway.

Put mirrors on #269 and searched and searched the garage for my key set for #269

Remember putting everything in a ziplock bag, marking it 10 years ago....

Forgot I put the ziplock bag in a paper bag and put it in a bin with other parts from the disassembly....

Find the locket (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) lay everything out and realized that I have been "hawked" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bananabang.gif) and realized (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bananabang.gif) the door latches and trunk locks (and other parts) that were on the car when I inspected the car and agreed to purchase (locks functioned, general good condition abet some baby shit brown overspray) had been replaced with absolute garbage.. Post broken off, huge rust bubbles in chrome, lock cylinders had screwdriver punched to override... Absolutely no value in these locks, aside from key wafers, maybe....

Been finding bits and pieces that have been substituted/hawked out...

It's one thing to buy a car and swap out parts and then resell. 356 guys do that all the time, buy a $40k car, swap out the parts to improve the value of their car, and then resell the car.

But to inspect and agree to purchase and then have parts swapped after the agreement...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/pirate.gif) those that do so should be (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whip[1].gif) and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/boom.gif)

Sorry for the rant... But progress has been made!

QUOTE(03blueboo @ May 15 2015, 07:29 AM) *

I was finally able to score an additional roof for my car last week. Yesterday I installed a bike rack and kayak rack. The roof still needs to be painted, and after the drive home with both racks full I see that I also need to add some bracing across the inside of the roof for the kayak. But here are the pics, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Any yes, the kayak is longer that the 914.

That looks great!

Please update us on how it handles at speed.

I had two of those racks for my 1998 Dodge Durango, and two years ago (18 yrs old car) at about 50 mph the roof cross bar that the racks attached to broke off. Both yaks went flying. So how much extra securing do you do for the targa top to stay on he car?

Finished fairing in the knacker duct as the last step in the oil cooler installation. Hoping to force air in at speed, and provide a cooler air source at idle in the wonderful Long Island traffic...

Thanks. ABS rockers, the NACA duct came from RPW. I'll get the duct hose on tomorrow.
Then I'm gonna drive it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Took out the hamster living quarters and wheel. Took about 4 hours. It was so quick I had time to work on good.

After the problems I had with low oil pressure I installed a pressure gauge in the engine bay. The oil pressure switch is also connected but will be replaces with a VDO sender so I can see the oil pressure whilst at the wheel
