... I also had to remove a second cylinder# 1 upper stud that was too short (missing some threads at the tip) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Also removed the barrels to check the pistons, rings and rod play.

Now, off to search for a couple of good used studs, two good two barrel nuts and a few new exhaust port studs*... (and my ring compressing tool). Then I can install the new lower deflector plate*, new push rod tube seals, new head washers* and new o-rings* as needed ... (* all of these items weren't installed when the PO put this motor together) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

does that engine stand just have2 arms...?

Yes. It's a cheap old T-1 VW stand I've had since the 70's. A 912 motor is similar in weight with a T-1, so it does the trick. I wouldn't use one of these for a T-4 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

After my windshield was hit last monday and made a crack in the middle, yesterday started removing the chrome trim and today I was able to remove the windshield and cleaned the left butyl seal. Now it shows the original copper metallic around the windshield frame. But I'm glad no rust and now ready for new windshield installation.
Also I have to order new chrom trim clip, lower windshield to dash rubber seal and double side adhesive tape for the rearview mirror.

Hi Guys,

I have been plugging away at my car and have taken the trailing arms and rear suspension off.... now sandblasted and painted... the arms not the shocks etc. I have since taken the CV's apart, cleaned them up and will begin reassembly this weekend with new boots for all. Felt good to get it done. Once I am done with this... I am on to the wiring... it will be a challenge to say the least.

I would like to remove as much as possible re Injection as it was a single carb before I bought it years ago and I now have a new Twin Weber setup for it.

I will have to add pics just to prove I actually got off my butt.

Grant

OK, after speaking with a tech rep at Summit, Wilwood's recommended clutch M/C bore for the 260-1333 slave cylinder is the same (.750")

I already have the slave cylinder on the way from another source (that was $20. less than Summit), so I just finished ordering the remainder of components a few minutes ago (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

... and orders over $100 ship for free (and no CA sales tax)

I finally put new clips on the door panels and snapped them in. Got sick of the wavy look. Also got the driver side handle/map box reattached and snug!

switch the tires/wheels of the 71 project with an older tires so it will not damaged the tires on the pedrini wheels while sitting inside the garage.

Well, I removed and replaced the shift rod, I hooked up the throttle cable, I re installed the breather, dismounted the old tires and mounted 4 new ones, then I let the LE down off the lift and fired that bitch up and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) drove it for the first time in over a year. It used to have a bad wheel bearing, but apparently running without a muffler will fix the roaring of a bad wheel bearing.

Head studs and tried to figure deck height but looks like I will have to wait for the heads to come back from the shop.

Discovered Spidertown in the '74 when I took out the front wheel well liners. Did that to remove the front bumper, to swap in Pilot driving lights for the factory fogs. Swapped the stub/vertical bracket from the originals, but I'm guessing they'll still be too low - I found several threads, one of which included Demick's bracket doc (index.php?showtopic=140554).

Also ordered some Hella H4 55/60W headlights, which Amazon says will be delivered Monday - Labor Day - which will be... interesting. (EDIT: Sunday's delivery of motor oil did arrive around 11:20AM, FWIW.)

The lighting upgrades have me thinking about relays for both of those, and for the starter. Preferably something with a push-to-start option, which several have mentioned (pic of Tom's version: index.php?s=&showtopic=224542). I sometimes have failure to start - not always hot weather, so maybe an ignition switch issue... Either way, a secondary keyswitch-pushbutton would be nice.

I had a For Sale sign on the car in front of my friend's house where she was having a tag sale....

I let this young lady drive it. She came back eventually with this smile on her face.....

Cool. Did they remove the rear bumper to paint it?

Finally tapped the stripped oil drain hole on my '74. (index.php?showtopic=263579) - so far so good, we'll see if there's a puddle in the morning... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Also cut the head off a stripped headlight retaining ring screw so I could install one Hella H4. Will have to take more care with the second headlight - one screw's rotted away, and the other two are rusted and stripped, so I imagine I'll be using the hacksaw/Dremel and drill, and then carefully sizing replacements.
