Drove it to cars and coffee Hilton head, saw a nice '69 911E signal orange. Owner has a handful of 911, and a sunflower yellow 914, 74 appearance group car, ver nice but he is convinced it is a rare "s" model (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)
Wanted to argue about the validity of that claim, so I asked if his coa confirmed this, and that was the end of that, btw he has boxes of parts, and I asked if he had any good h.e's. He didn't know what that was (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) , so. Offered to sort thru his stash.

Dropped the engine. Time to do some maintenance -- replace clutch, replace fuel lines, replace battery tray, clean/blast/repaint engine tin, replace leaky oil cooler, replace vacuum lines, and whatever else I might find "while I'm in there".

Ran the Ortega, saw a nice black 356 convertible on the side of the road. Pulled over to ask if needed help. It's not every day that you see a 914 pulling over to offer assistance. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) Said he was waiting on the wrecker. Back home and on the lift again to continue measurements on the new exhaust system.

Working on making a horn button...had a buddy turn a domed wood disc, which is in a 914rubber.com button...and laser engraved the logo.

The rest of the wheel still needs some refurbishing before it's all done...but that's what winter is for!

Opened up 2 043 mps units, one just needed new seal, but the copper diaphragm was fine,
But second one was not holding vac, had never been opened, so the rivets were removed and the diaphragm was torn, so it got a new seals, paper gasket and diaphragm. Now holds vac! Tests out o.k. electronically so it will get road tested to.orrow. the epoxy seal was not touched, and I left it alone, so that the depth of the inner screw would be the same.
Thanks to Chris Foley for producing these!.
One thing, the one with a good diaphragm had been tampered with by a p.o. the inner screw was turned quite a ways out or counter clockwise, and I measured the depth it had been set was about 3 turns further out than the one that was untouched. So no wonder it would not work for us.for anyone who has messed with one of these you know that even a quarter turn will make a huge difference., so this was way off I hope now it's close enough that I can make a minor adjustment and get it set back to where it should be. I attached a pair of inexpensive light bars to the top of the fog light grilles with zip ties, but modded them today, 1/17/16, using machine screws and fender washers for a cleaner look.

here is the eBay product purchased:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171961642045?_trks...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

this is an update of my previous mod where I changed out the interior components of the OE fog light bulbs to LEDs. (here is that old link)

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=230504

1/17/16, update on attachment method to eliminate zip ties (lots of work but cleaner appearance and protects the LED light bar.)
You will need two drill bits, 1/8" and 1/4".
a. Drill the smaller hole through both sides of edge moulding, (gotten at local TAP plastics store) 10x19mm/ The plastic edging is flexible and is soft enough and matches the gentle curve of the grille, and flexes nicely as the machine screw tightens up onto back of the grille.
b. Drill a larger hole on the side that faces forward. Place a putty knife in between the molding to avoid drilling through the other side
c. insert the machine screws into the molding
d. insert the LED strip into the molding
e. add shrink wrap to the end of the completed assembly
f. 914 fog grills need only a 3/4" long machine screws and a fender washer. As seen in these added pics, I needed 2 inch screws to attach this to my Lexus

quite inexpensive: pair of LEDs $2, hardware $3, plastic edging, sorry, unknown$$ bought it 10 years ago. all told, less than $10, out the door.

Interesting, I had some LED strips left over from a defective Robern med cabinet. I found they sat right in that spot in the grille but didn't have any weather protection so I put the small project on the back shelf.. Sometimes more light is better. Looks good.

bottom pic show what drivers see in their rear view if I switch on the fog lights

Hmmmmm. Remove the fogs, multiple strips to match the grill pattern. Look cool?

That sound appealing. I did buy another pair, as spares, so I will try that out. It will blaze at night, but in daytime they do look cheesy.
