I started it, backed it out of the garage and warmed up the engine... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) I let it run for about 30 minutes.

That's as far as I got... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

It's OK, I was cleaning out the garage today. Tomorrow I might take it around the block. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

well after two weeks vacation in Portland for Christmas and New Years celebration with my wife twin sister, I did missed my car and finally this morning wipe the dust out of it and drove it to check a 73 1.7 FI and called a tow truck guy to tow it home.

Scott the seller was a very nice guy and I know 914world member knows him because he did used to rebuild porsche engines.

Adjusted the valves- sure miss the pit I have back in my garage in IA. PITA jacked up and no room for lift in this small garage in AZ... (and if someone notices, the jack is just added insurance- it is up on jackstands!)Attached Image

Damn! That is one clean machine. I'd like to see more pic's of the "business end". BTW, look at the MaxJax for your AZ garage. Do you know where Creston or Orient are in IA?

I've been basically crapping myself over cutting into the visible body to cut out my targa sail rust holes, but finally sucked it up over the weekend and did it. At the same time I had what looked like a penny-size rust hole over the door handle that turned into a $.50c-piece size hole once I wire cupped it. So, at the same time I chopped that out and then scraped out all of that white foam junk that trapped the water that caused the rust in the first place. A few lessons:

1. I initially just cut a small hole around the sail panel rust until I saw the state of the foam pad that was resting against it. Foam was thoroughly embedded with loose rust, so the whole length had to come out. I figured since I was going to have to weld in a patch, it might as well be a 12" patch as a 4" one.

2. The white foam up under the door handle/vent area can be got out with a bit of patience, a screw driver, a hooked seal remover, and a small hammer. The foam is about 3/4" deep above the door sill interior vent thing, which I discovered after I punched several "speed holes" into it with my hammer and screwdriver.

3. Once you take the plunge it's not that horrible to cut into the body like this - I'd never done it and was convinced that I would irretrievably ruin the car. But, as I've read on here "it's just metal", and I can see now that patching even the complex angle around the door handle isn't going to be rocket science.

4. Worrying about what I'd find was actually way worse than just doing the cutout and finding it. The rust repair itself only took a few minutes.

Do yourself a favor and ditch the spacers on the sprocket arms. Get the wide
bushing arms. Some claim that the narrow ones cause many of the chain
tensioner failures by having binding due to the small and off-center bushing.

It's Porsche 964!

Since I installed the 3.6 L engine from 964 in 914 , the tachometer stops working - not working properly even with a converter .
because I have taken the tachometer from 964. The works flawlessly!
have now even a multi-function display - there being only the outside temperature does.

Greating from Switzerland

Spent yesterday afternoon installing an entirely new exhaust system. Today it's coming back out because I don't like the sound. Going to modify it today and try it again.
