I had to paint one black to match the 'BB' a few years ago.

There was a guy (Bill) that used to attend the G&R Swap Meet, that custom-painted them in any factory color one wanted. He also installed different wheels on them. I bought a white one from him for my wife (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif)

I blew up rear brake line and/or regulator. Not sure yet but brake fluid is all over the firewall and the pedal went to floor.

Good news was the Brake Emergency light worked and started flashing...

Took a long lunch and changed out the worn out left output shaft seal on my DD.
Expected to see a wear pattern on the shaft. None.
The seal actually is worn out. Didn't measure it. You could see it with the naked eye.

Finally getting around to post this vid from Father's day. Me teaching my son to drive stick. Can't think of a better 914/father's day activity.

Working on stuck rear brake. Bled the system, removed parkingbrake, pads etc.
Pushed piston back, which went well. First trying if this will fix things. If it doesnt I will rebuild caliper.

QUOTE(mrbubblehead @ Dec 17 2011, 10:07 PM) *

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.

i'll start,

about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today?

yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup.

what did you do to your 914 today?

Picked up the motor today. Just about ready to button up and put back in the car. We should be driving it in 30-45 days or so. Getting excited.

Finally got my hands dirty on a 914. Pulled a motor/ trans for Mr Bowlsby. Start to finish in about 5 hours in 90*+ weather and taking my time to make sure nothing broke. No pics though

Car started running weird. Runs great cold then after about 15 minutes it starts misfiring and spitting up the carb on #4 cyclinder.

So dropped by my friends shop (local friendly Porsche guy) to run a compression test. Unfortunately it was being used on the Cobra. He's got a broken piston but mine is still a puzzle to be solved.

...painting on the wall is a 914. He's got a Boxster engine sitting around that he wants to put in my car...I keep telling him it won't fit...gotta get the 4 running smooth again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The driver side rear fender is too dimpled to flat with just spray primer so I stripped it back and put a thin skim of filler on it. Then rubbed most of it back off! The drivers door was painted as a tester but then my son opened the garage door and this caused a wind gust which threw up a dust cloud and stuck to the door.

Will rub down and repaint when I'm happy with the rear wing

Part of my 914 rubber order arrived today and hopefully the rest will arrive tomorrow.

Gary, when did you paint (or plate or coat) your engine lid grille? I never noticed it before (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Obviously, I also think the contrast looks good on dark bodied cars (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool_shades.gif)

This should solve rear brake issues and a persistent leak in the fittings!!

Thanks Eric!!!

Now just gonna wait for it to cool down a little- and get the lift installed next week- that should make it a LOT easier job!!

Worked on fabbing up the piece to close the hell hole on the '75 LS3 project. Gotta love the shrinker: no more pie cuts that have to be welded!

I have a theory on Porsche shops/mechanics; they are either affordable=slow and totally unorganized, or good service=really, really expensive.

Plus, finding a person who will even work on a 914 is a trick in and of itself.

Front axle is getting close to being done on my car. I can do this myself, but I traded out some labor.

Eight cars in here, and they are ALL in different states of disrepair.

It drives me crazy, I'm a bit too pedantic and Teutonic to be able to cope with the madness going on here.
