QUOTE(shuie @ Dec 28 2011, 09:05 PM) *

Broke down my rear suspension consoles for new bushings, bearings, etc.. 10 minutes worth of work and 3hrs+ of searching Sears & every local DIY auto repair & hardware store in the area for the triple square bit I needed for the CV bolts

Pelican has the the 12 point tool. I ended up finding mine at a local VW Bug shop... a quality tool at a great price. I would recommend anyone looking for parts/tools to search out a good classic VW shop.

Last weekend: new rear rotors and rear brake pad clearance adjustment. Where can I get the caliper adjustment gear caps with the 4mm allen hex with the copper washer? The original aluminum onse are stripped to hell. I thought I saw someone selling them here at one point... in steel? Eric Shea?

This weekend: bleeding brakes single-handed. No way I'm asking the wife for help (divorce is expensive in California). Wish me luck.

Yep, Eric's got 'em at PMB, super fast shipping with USPS Priority Mail, too. I've just mounted up "speed bleeders", works like a champ.

I pulled the "A" arms, struts, pedal box, brakes, master cylinder & gas tank. However I coulnd not get the steering rack & crossmember. It is loose but hung up on something.

So I pulled the interior to remove the tar/sound deadiner and white caulk stuff. While the frt end is removed I want to clean some rust before it gets words.

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.
what did you do to your 914 today?

I cut off and rewelded the pivot point for my shift linkage for the 930 trans/V8 package. I raised it a bit to get out of harms way, readjusted the Corvette Z06 shifter & linkage and took it for a test drive.

It was GREAT shifting now and I filled the tank for the New Years Day "hang-over" fun run in SOCAL.

I'm Ready!

Terry

My car has been my daily driver for two weeks now and will be for more than another week while my MINI is at the shop getting some bodywork done. Heat works great and it's been nice to drive it so much.

Thought it would be a good idea to pull my oil pan (SBC) and fix some oil leaks with a new Felpro 1 peice pan gasket. Got it all together and oil poured out of the front pan seal worse than before. Turns out Felpro makes several types. Thick front seal / thin front seal. $35.00 later I bought the thick front seal, one peice gasket. got it all together, full of new oil and she's ready to run.
Took her for a run around the block, no leaks, all is good for now.
Any SBC's or V8's out there I recommend the one piece gasket, they seal like a champ and very easy to install, so easy I did it twice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

I beat on mine with a 10# sledgehammer and jumped up and down on a crowbar until the fender released it's grip on the ruined tire....

It's an, um, improvement.

Update:

Pulled fuel tank, no leaks! Pulled out the fresh air box, put in new used fresh air box from Tomas- it works, tested contacts at the fan cleaned the contacts on the sliders don't but for some reason I can only get the fan to work on the middle setting speed #2. Better than nothing like before, but I am not satisfied. The contacts touch. All that i will reevaluate another day. All that took so long I never got to figure out my window washer issue, or replacing the c.h.t. ah, but there is tomorrow!
(I i've had the whole week off but only spent a few hours on the car. )

I forgot to add- after I got the fan in and tank back in place -they with the help of my 19biggest y.o. son, we left the kids at home and I took my wife out for a drive! Only the 3rd time on 2+ years we've been able to do that! And pulling thru downtown, slow in afterwork traffic, I am amazed at how people will stop and look, and point st these cool cars.
