Led the Polar Bear drive in NorCal through the foothills today. Got a bit chilly and "moist" as we got to the higher elevations with no top and windows down, oh well.

Good for you! I've always wanted to do this drive. Maybe 2018!

Today I have the flu.

Yesterday I fabricated my chassis stiffening kit in anticipation of the engine drop in a week or so... MoCal thermostat goes in when the engine is out of the way / then all oil lines get measured, cut and fittings installed.......

KEP clutch and parts are on order. Money is flying out of my house at an alarming rate. ? Thanks to Steve for the contact at Kennedy / saved another bundle of money due to his experience.

My pal Larmo63 turned me on to an old timer 911 guy with a shop near mine that has a dyno engine stand / and he will take the first 20 minutes of action on my new 3.0 to check for leaks and oil circulation. For a fee yet to be defined... As the son of two Phs's. I know Knowledge and experience is King and money is always less important.

Here we go////////

Expect to find leaks mine was fine for a short while it just happens with a six...so many places to leak or sweat, found the oil line pipes need to be supported with the right tools and done up tight.

When I removed the headlight assemblies from the '71, I also removed the little brush assemblies that wipe the actuating arms that connect to the motors. One of the rubber flaps that attach to the brush assemblies survived, but the other one didn't hold up too well.

I'm going to find some similar thickness rubber and trace the pattern to make a some new ones (for both of my cars).

Not sure how many people have replaced these when doing a resto, and not sure if there would be a big enough market for Mark to take these on at 914rubber (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Just thought to share ...

I didn't know there were flaps of rubber...I guess the PO took care of those years ago.
Would very much appreciate if you could sketch out the dimensions and thickness of the rubber...or...as you say (and better yet) if 914rubber added this to it's repertoire

I woke up to find a very nice set of Webers for sale today and bought them. Small parts for this build are arriving at the house everyday.

I may have to live in this car by the time I get it done.

Little by little.

That's why I decided to stick with 4 cylinder power (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool_shades.gif)

Finished drilling out the spot welds on the floor in anticipation of prepping and welding in the new one. Also have some 3x3 tubing with punched holes in them that I'm thinking of running down the center (my console is rotted up about 2 inches from the floor in most places) for additional strength. Wondering about how easy running the fuel lines and trans cables will be with those installed.... Here's the dimensions of the headlight actuating arm seal. It appears the thickness is 1/64" or so (quite thin). I think 1/32" would work fine and hold up longer.

As I am down with the flu, I couldn't make it to the shop to do anything productive so I opted for a repeat disassembly of my Weber 40 triples for the 3.0 build to check specs on jets, tubes, idles, etc.

The way they are now (and I am at sea level), I have 30 mm venturi's, 55 Idles, 125 mains,180 air corrections, and F1 Emulsions. This is the way they were sold to me. My 2.2L is running dual throat (Empi) 40's and have totally different jetting etc. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Does anyone out there have a set of Weber internals specs for a similar engine build / a 3.0 SC w/ Webcam 20/21 grind running a recurved dizzy?

Picked up another steering wheel for the car. I think this makes #4. I am very excited to get the car out and channel some vintage vibes through this 1960's MoMo wheel. Early LeMans flat wheel at 380mm. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) I think I'll leave the top on the next drive and pretend I am driving a 904 gts.

Garold, I know you salvage a lot of small items before you scrap the main carcasses, but have you run across and saved any of these brush assemblies from the headlight bucket area?
