Got the new stainless fuel lines installed in the tunnel. Would have been easier with a second person, but not too bad as it was.

Also installed the new fuel pump, relocated to the rear firewall. Found that a PO had a different take on vapor lock prevention - he/she pulled the cap of of the right side heat flapper and ducted the outlet to the center of the car, using really tacky foil hose and lots of zip ties.

After adding today's work to the work over the past week (all the fuel rail hoses and new injector seals), all that's left in my fuel delivery fefurbishment is to reinstall and connect the fuel tank. Once that is done, I will attempt to start it up.

Thanks! I was a little sad to see the granny sofa seat inserts go, but they were disgusting.

Pushed it out of the garage to work on my air conditioner's air handler. Definitely can tell the brakes are sticking and I need to get around to fixing it. Started it up just to hear it rev. The sky was cloudy and sun was going down so it made for some really good pix.

Also in the midst of a carpet replacement, but more importantly was swapping out the shifter that pretty much was against my right leg whenever driving, with the exception of 5th gear...

As you can see, the lever was canted way off to the left. Looking forward to some extra legroom... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well, it was two days ago, but...

Drove it to Hershey for the swap meet and back. 2+ hours each way, and in the rain to boot! Car did really well, even at highway speeds. Although, I did discover that the car isn't completely weather-proof -- had a few small leaks into the interior. So, after I got back, I pulled everything easily removable from the car, left the doors and hoods open, set up a fan and let the dehumidifier in the garage do its thing. Car doesn't seem any worse for wear.

May even really push my luck and sign up for Okteenerfest this year.

Good to meet you on Saturday, Bill. I think all of us probably needed to "dry out" after the trip back -- not sure how many of us, if any, are watertight.

Well, also yesterday, not today. (Updated my build thread, but not here. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?s=&...t&p=2478655 )

Ran for the first time for at least 6 years, more likely close to 8 years. Wasn't too tough, today is 4 weeks since I got it home.

I started it. Ran it at 2k +\_ for 20 minutes to work harden the cams and check for leaks. Mocal opened up and showed me one on the top nut on the front cooler. I have initial carb tuning and sorting yet to do short term.

914 content:

The high winds blew the cover off ot the 'BB' - so I rolled it up and it's safely tucked away for now.

My friend Carlos came by this am and looked at the '71 914 again ... still only wants $1,500 to repair a few minor dents and repaint it L80E Ivory ... I just need to remove some more trim pieces so he can start working on it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ... (the unusually wet winter put a serious damper on all the automotive work here) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Other stuff:

Also, Carlos is going to take the Vanagon to his place next week ... remove the front windshield, the rear hatch window and left center side window, fix some serious rust spots, remove a dent in the rear hatch, repaint those areas and reinstall the windows with new rubber seals - all for $650. ... then I can ask the really BIG BUCKS for it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif)

Sourced a interior mirror mount/courtesy light assembly, the proper screws and installed it in the Ghia. Cleaned out the glove box and found receipts for a brake job, and new sparkie plugs & wires that the PO had performed just prior to my purchase, totaling $350.

Ran some conduit & wiring and installed a 6-station sprinkler controller for the new sprinkler system we installed last year - so the CA grass will stay nice and green when I'm in AZ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pat.gif)

What this all means, is that I can now devote some quality time to the 'BB's clutch release project this w/e.

Took the '73 out for a test run after doing Mark's Ford solenoid hot start "fix". Started right up, and after up to temp it started right up again... though I must admit I did it at a friend's house where he is on the side of "mountain."
