I installed my newly double wrapped steering wheel and took Underdog for a drive. This car just begs to be driven, and I go out driving just for the heck of it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

That has got to be one of the nicest cockpit environments I have seen... great wheel.

Enjoy!

Clean up and polished up a distributor to be sent out for overhaul and testing.

that looks very nice- I am curious where do you send it to for testing? I have one I bought a couple years ago that was supposedly refurbished and looks great, new seal, new plate and groundstrap etc, but when I put it in the car it ran likc crap, put my other one back in , like night and day- I am wondering if the cam or shaft is worn and there is wobble? would like to have it tested to see whats up with it. I wanted a spare just in case kind of thing,. any information you can relate would be greatly appreciated,

Phil
Phil, any shop that has a SUN distributor machine can check for you, but Glenn Ring is the top-shelf go-to guy for distributor work & restorations. He's on a few forums that I know of, for sure he's on the 912BBS and the Samba. I purchased a custom curved distributor from him for the 'BB's 2056 several years ago.

Here's his web site: http://www.glenn-ring.com/

Added these 6” bad boys. Also improves tire adhesion. Need to install a relay for the high beams.

Am thinking that the lights need to each go inboard about 6” so they don’t block the grills.

No real work on the 914 today, got this killer 1:6 scale hood from Oscar today, thanks buddy!

I think it might match the Sunoco blue on the cover of the latest 000 magazine I just got today also.

Oh yea, got my 36-1 trigger wheel from Amazon today also.

Honestly had not thought of that. Seen them mounted on the hood but not there. Since the bumper top, bumper and hood are original I probably won’t drill them. If they weren’ I sure would. Yeah think I will move them inboard so they are just a bit to the inside of the grills. Was using two existing factory holes in the bumpers for the mounts and clamped the other sides.

Not there revered Oscar since I am a cheap bastard. Got some 70s generics for a bargain price and amazingly they look great. http://www.jbugs.com/product/ZVW120C.html

Bought some lense protectant film from Laminex to hopefully keep them from getting damaged the first week.

Working on Mike's (Warpigs) car. He's chomping on the bit to be back on the road.

Next stop. Fuel pump relocated to the front. This will be the 3rd 75+ fuel cover/mount I've cut out and installed with nutserts. Three port pump takes a little larger hole.

Nutserts, front and back.

Re-Routing the fuel pump wires thru the snorkel. Today I'll create a red and black 2 wire harness to run with the tunnel harness.

This morning I'll dig into the hellhole with multiple wire brushes and see how much of rust I can remove. Plus create the patch in the engine tray where the fuel pump used to be hanging by a thread.

Cary its been a while since I looked at a 75 mount but curious why people don't go the 911 route and mount under the steering rack? By the way I love all of your threads..

I mounted mine under the steering rack. Seemed like the logical choice when I relocated the fuel pump.

Quite possibly set a record for "the most time spent installing an led headlamp" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) I didn't realize that I had std bulbs so went thru my stash to grab some H4 housings only to discover one had bit the dust. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) I was determined to mount the power inverter rather than let it dangle. My first attempt interfered with the headlamp as it retracted. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) I wanted to mount it on the inner wall of the bucket but that would have meant drilling thru the data plate that is located there so the alternate location was a bitch to drill and then get a nut and bolt there. The drivers side doesn't have that plate so it will be easier to mount What a difference though. Obviously the passenger side has the LED.

Is it just me or does it look like the upper gearbox end cone screws are overloaded and will eventually fail from vibrations and heat? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I would re-think that whole installation. It looks kind of... um, awkward. If it loosen or breaks and vibration sets up, it can loosen the exhaust studs.

Driving lights Take 2.

Didn’t like the drivers blocking the grills which also serve as air intakes for my cooler (besides a bent down piece on the front valence) so moved them inboard and really like the improvement. Added a self adhesive film to help protect against small rocks.

Since I never use the rear window defroster, would like to use that switch for the lights. My best guess is to find wire (any guess on color?) (The owners manual doesn’t even list rear window defroster as being fused.) to the defroster coming out of the fuse block and replace it with the positive lead to the lights. If that isn’t right, let me know. Much grass amigos.

The wiring diagrams have been deleted off the Bird. Any other sources?
