I currently have a 74 914 2.0-liter. I also bought a 78 911sc recently. What I plan to do is to drop the 915 tranny and the 3.0 liter SC motor into my 914 to give my baby more of a punch. I know I have to do the suspension, brakes, yadda yadda.

But here's the problem I'm having. I talked to a porsche mechanic here and he claims that the 915 tranny won't work in the 914. Is this true? Or is he blowing smoke? I know that the V8 conversions sometimes use 915 tranny's. And if I use the 915 tranny, do I need a rebuild? About how much will it cost? But anyway.. I have more questions to follow.

Another problem I have is how to fit the motor in the 914. Does everything bolt in? Or do I need to cut and weld?

The wiring is another nightmare I am having right now. Do I need to re-do ALL of the wiring in the car?

This project is giving me headaches! Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated!

I dont have time to tell you everything but I am sure someelse will. Check out the resources section on this board for alot of the parts.

If you plan on using the 915 you need to flip the R&P.

The 915 will work in a 914. It just needs the R/P flipped to work correctly.

the 3.0 will need some parts to fit correctly in your car. You will need:

-6 Motor Mount (Richard Johnson's is the mount of choice)
-6 Sheet Metal (lots of options there, steel or fiberglass)
-6 Oil Tank (factory are preferred, but others use aftermarket)
-6 Heat Exchangers or Headers
-6 Oil Lines

There's more, but that's off the top of my head.
If it's CIS, some cars had to modify the engine/trunk firewall with a notch to fit. (my 2.7 had that done)

Good Luck.
Read around here, there is a lot of info in the older threads.
