I'd like not to reuse the circlips in my rebuild. I've called AA and they unfortunately haven't gotten back to me even after speaking to a sales rep. Are there anything special about these or can I order something of the same size and run with it?

Almost anything will work as long as it's the right size.
There isn't too much lateral pressure on the clips.
Type 1 had a wire clip.

I disagree.. At BDC and TDC changeover the pins are loaded laterally.
Use proper fitting clips in both diameter and thickness or you will have a bad day.
