Pelican Parts is great about having parts. Today I used them for the second time...I bought a speed bleeder for $11.25. The shipping for these little bleeder valves was $9.80! Is this normal!? If it is I guess I will only be able to use them for bulk orders. It really sucks.

Their shipping defaults to UPS/FedEx. If you selected USPS Priority it would have been $4.75 and you would have gotten it just as quickly.

interesting shipping charge. i sent some mags across the country and shipping was about $16 and change a piece, fedex ground. the 1st pound priority mail is $3.65, iirc, for 3 day day delivery. did you pay $11.25 for one bleeder or 4?

I called in the order. I asked about other shipping options. The lowest he gave me was something like $7.80. For some reason I let him give me the $9.80 charge. I think..??.. his name was Tom? Maybe I should try ordering through the internet next time. |

Boy, that is a little odd.
If you go to the Pelican Speed Bleeder Shipping Cost Calculator, it shows that it costs more to ship them to your location than it does to ship them across the country via UPS or FedEx. It was $9.80 to Walla Walla and $8.08 to Connecticut. They must have factored in the cost of bribing the border guards to get into Washington State. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Perhaps Wayne can explain it. |

Just paid something like $8 to ship 2 targa top trunk clips to CO. Doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary. UPS Ground shipping.

Only limited experience so far but, for large packages at least, FedEx ground beats UPS by a lot. Paid $28 to send a 356 bumper and deco, 20 lbs, 70"x17"x7" from Portland to Phoenix. UPS was $60. Both included an oversize surcharge. I usually use UPS ground without a second thought. From now on I will check FedEx first. Postal service also often beats UPS, especially for small items. Those targa top clips would fit in a USPS Priority Mail envelope and be there in two days for $3.85.

Well the cool thing is that Tom from Pelican called me twice today. They are able to combine my two orders and save me about $9 shipping. So that's cool. I am just use to ordering from Summit with free shipping...I guess I was spoiled. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/boldblue.gif)

you got called twice? looks like the 914world.com website gets read during business hours. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) for larger items fedex can't be beat in my book. avoid the brown(ups) stores or the mail box etc type stores if at all possible they tack on their cut too. ask them what shipping will be, then the actual carrier costs. prob will not tell you.
