I have been involved with the planning & development of Oregon Raceway Park, but as a former racer, it is really cool that we have yet another NEW track coming on board in Washington.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StK22-XuPVo We now have four nice tracks within 3 hours of portland: • Portland International Raceway - http://www.portlandraceway.com/ • Oregon Raceway Park - http://oregonraceway.com/ • The Ridge - http://www.ridgemotorsportspark.com/ • Pacific Raceways Also, check out the icon advert on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te0V71sGoxA...player_embedded (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

Isn't it just a new drag strip, moving it off the track? The old tracks main straightway was the drag strip which sucked as you couldn't have a road race and the drags at the same time plus the old owners weren't into road racing only drag racing.

Mission Raceway Park and of course my favorite, Spokane county Raceway are also within a day's drive. It's down right tough to live in this part of the world.

I still have a Westwood patch! one of my prized possessions! (Mountain High Racing!) Mission? meh... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Spokane? haven't been there in Y E A R S. Heard it was better. More than three hours away though... (Thought about stopping by the track a few years ago when my son had a SKUSA kart race in Spokane, but never did.) The Ridge & ORP have some good elevation change! Looking forward to the Ridge as well! Maybe we should have a PNW 914 party/gathering at ORP or the Ridge on one of the planned track days? I think you are thinking of the old SIR (now know as Pacific Raceway.) I don't really like the changes made on the front straight (drag strip) a few years ago... but the kart track is sweet! The Ridge is a completely new track out on the Olympic Peninsula! |

I too am not to enamored with diving through an 20' opening in Jersey barrier pointed at the wall outside the front strait at about 100MPH. Once they started allowing the drag guys to use that traction snot on the concrete launch pads it was all over for SIR (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

The Ridge is in Shelton, WA. Just down the road from the State Penn and the WSP Training Academy, which has it's own drive course that would be an awesome drive in a sports car.
Best Part about the Ridge is when you have a moment, hit the Walmart there in Shelton. It is a whole new world seeing a Walmart in Mason County, WA. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) |

I love that we are getting many new tracks. Now if we can stop people from moving near them only to complain about the noise (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
Hopefully we can get a few more up North (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I have heard Marysville or Mount Vernon have tried a few times. |

Once they started allowing the drag guys to use that traction snot on the concrete launch pads it was all over for SIR (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Used to have the same problem out at SCR. I thought it was a bit of a trade off though as the long straight made turn 1 a bit of a pucker. Last season they finally moved the road course inside for the length of the drag strip. It now joins well after the quarter mile mark so no more Jersey barrier. Made the track a bit more complicated and doesn't appear to have reduced entry speed on turn 1, it's just as good at eating cars as it ever has been. |
