Don't know about you but I live in mortal fear of being rear ended by some latte swilling, cell phone yacking, child slapping soccer mom in her SUV. No matter how well insured, the thought of totalling it or having to build another is a drag. So... Any one who can read knows that a 3rd brake down will significantly reduce the likelyhood of being rear ended (key word significantly) but a flashing brake light which pulses 3 or 4 flashes before going solid really gets peoples' attention. So I found one at a cycle site and the thing has three things going for it:
1. Compact size 2. Blistering bright - far brighter than anything I have seen 3. Option to also have it as a running light (not doing this) which then goes to brake light. Anywho, I am more than impressed with it. http://www.customdynamics.com/Light_bars.htm Scroll down to Knight Riderz Non-Sequential LED Light Bar. Theres's a vid too. No affiliation. They also have a non-flashing version, but what the hell, I don't have to be the one watching it flash. |

Is that inside the glass or outside?
Also, how did you fish the wires? |

The flashing is key! That's really what's going to save you. Very nice! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif)

the wires were easy to hide. Ran the thin wire that comes with it - from the left brake light through the trunk into engine compartment, through the engine grill closest to the chrome sail panel trim piece which I unscrewed and pryed to remove. then pry the center chrome piece - there is a clip in the middle and just run the wires under the chrome pieces exiting where you want to mount it under the targa bar - out side of course. I made a little bracket out of some scrap - everything is attached with 3M double sided tape which holds great. Guess you could just use the adhesive strip on the back of the light and attach to the outside of your back window too. I like it because it is pretty stealth until their eyes start bleeding.

I have the same light on 2 of my cars , they are great, I run the tail light on my daily diver (Boeing traffic). I ran the wires back to the tail lights.

SIXNOT4... yeah on 405 one of those should just about be required. WSP not given you any grief about it? I added a LED strip 5 years ago to the inside of my back window on my 73 911. I thought it was great until getting this. Needless to say, I am taking that one out and replacing it with this. Edit: Just pulled the trigger. |

QUOTE WSP not given you any grief about it Only one person in Colorado RRC did , I told him to quit starring at it. It is pretty much like following a modern day street bike, Yes it gets your attention. I have always thought a toggle switch would be the way to go ,optional 3rd running light. |

I bought this strip of 72 LED on Ebay. It was originally part of an old Accord sedan's spoiler. 3m double face tape under the bar.
Not a big fan of the Escalade look but it is really bright. If it can help protect the back of my head from an H2 bumper, I can accept it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |

You can't see mine unless they are lit up. They are mounted inside the engine cover. Won them in a raffle at last years rte. 66 tour.

This is a great idea that I'm gonna do if the car ever gets off the lift. IMHO the higher the better!

This one is from a '86 Corvette. Bought it December 2009 from GMSports in San Jose, CA. $27.16 including tax, free shipping (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Finally got around to installing this past weekend. I needed to paint it to match the car and drill 3 holes in the engine deck lid. I like some of the other methods you guys have done, and I'm thinking of installing additional lighting. The strip of LEDs mounted inside the targa trim above the rear window seems like it would be the most effective, as it's mounted higher up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) ... |
