'72 Tail Shifter
I am changing all of the bushings on my tail shifter. There is two balls at the firewall in the engine compartment. How do you get the ball on the shaft. To get the old ball off I pulled the shaft and put it in a vice and pounded it out with a bunch using the small hole at the end of the ball. But how in the world do I get the new one on??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) I tried to pound it in holding the ball...but it keeps shooting across the room!! |

I got them! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Easier then I thought...
To get the balls off: Clamp the part down in a vice on the ball. Take a punch, in my case I used a couple of nails (a couple because they bent), insert the punch into the small hole at the end of the ball. And pound. The part will drop right off. To get the new part on: The mistake I made was trying to pound the part back into the ball... This time clamp the part. Take a hammer and tap/pound the ball, hitting the ball, on. I think hitting on the ball end helps spread it around the shaft. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |
