I have always liked the Audi A4. They really had a winning design, that had all around good looks. However, I can't say I like this new design. That front grill is a major departure from the refining changes made in years past. Not only does it stick out at me, it looks like something I have seen on a car that Dodge is orrering (or is it Chrysler?).

Not so much ugly as just boring.

They build the new Chysler 300s and the Dodge Magnums a block from my warehouse. The 300 is definitely ugly, and the Magnum? Well, it's a station wagon.

Gag...so NOW what am I gonna do, the new Audis are right up there on the fugly scale with the BMW's! (I saw a 645 on the way home and its ass-end just didn't seem "right" to me, same as the 5's).

Gotta admit I think Benz has won the styling war in the latest generation of high-perf euro sedans. The current E55 is a damn nice car in particular.

That seems like a step back for the A4. Doing away with the characteristic Audi grill is a huge mistake.

The new GTI has a similar grill treatment:

Wrong, wrong, wrong!!!

Dodge Ram Truck look? Not to my taste, but WTF. Blasphemy, I'm sure, but I like the Caddie better. 4 valve V8 doesn't hurt, either. Will we buy domestic cars because they are cheaper, look, handle and go better? Is this a dream?

The front of the Audi looks horrible. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif)

As far as the GTI goes the one in the back of the picture looks much better to me, I don't think they have made great looking GTI for at least 10 years. But that's me I had an '85 and loved it.

Get used to it, there's more to come.

A new(improved) EU rule
is coming into effect. It seems that low/sleek front ends were pitching folks onto the cars windshield/roof/rear spoiler (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) when they stepped off the curb in front of these cars. I think the blunt front ends are supposed to punt folks into next Tuesday or somthin' ......No, I'm not BSing you.

If that is true about that EU rule, then that rules out all Porsches.

I don't see what the deal is with emphasizing the grill so much. That has never been in the european car tradition. I bought my 93 Passat precisely because it didn't have a big ugly grill. The Audi's grill looks so big, that it looks like it might suck in small animals, dogs, etc.

New "Corporate grill" is dreadful, sure it evokes the old Auto Union GP cars, but damn that was in the 30's!!! First BMW starts smoking crack and now they've passed the pipe to Audi, what are the Germans thinking...I just hope Mercedes just says no to drugs!

Front looks like a Kia, back looks like a Civic...WTF

I'm so glad I got my 99.5, best style IMHO. I bet there will be a run on the last of the 2004 S4's out there.

I'll agree that the GTI and A4 new look is not good, but I like the look on the A6 / A8. Just doesn't look right on the A4 for some reason... like they took a good idea and 'broke' it by trying to cram it into a smaller space.

You know I was expecting to have to defend myself for criticizing the new Audi. But it looks like everyone agrees. You would think that Audi would focus group their designs. And I agree, BMW looks ugly now too. Their new BMW grills look like Grand Am grills!

I agree, the new A4 grill design is quite nasty. I think the GTI looks ok....
