It was announced today that Ford are closing down the Jaguar F1 team at the end of the year and will sell the team and/or all of its assets.
The Jag car line and other specialist brands are not making money and are not improving so Ford, which is losing market share is saving costs. They are also closing the Brown Lane manufacturing plant, which is where the XKs are made. Not only Jag F1, but also Cosworth is selling/closing. Cosworth also supply engines to Minardi and Jordan F1 so the impact could be enormous. Also Cosworth build ALL the Chevy IRL engines and ALL the Champ Car engines. It will be interesting to see what happens/who buys the companies... Richard |

I have read that Aston Martin is going to be putting the DB9 into the Le Mans.
That should be fun to watch. Jag just haven't been competitive in F1 this year. Somone in the Bay Area needs to pony up some cash and start a F1 team. Ellison? Jobs? |

I think I'll buy the Cosworth assets.
Bet they got some cool tools. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Paul |

Cosworth had to get out of F1 anyway with the new engine specification of a 2.4 litre V8. They had slugged on with a crap V10 long enough, but they sure as hell weren't going to develop a new motor for Minardi.
(Jordan, now sold to some emirate or other, finally has more than enough money to buy whatever motors it wants.) This pretty much screws the pooch, as far as Coulthard goes. That sucks. But ... doesn't the Concorde agreement require a minimum number of cars on the grid? Anyone recall what it is? I wonder if two big teams will have to field three cars, or if there are still enough to make weight. |

Cosworth isn't "closing". They're VERY successful in a wide array of motorsports, and I'll bet there are potential buyers queuing up around the block to buy them. Cosworth may buy itself out and attempt to go it alone. Ford's short-sighted bean counters are just dumping a valuable asset to generate cash. I would be very surprised if they don't develop a 2.4L V8 for Jordan, Minardi, and whomever buys JagF1, assuming the V8 rule even comes into effect. BMW has threatened to pull out if it does, and if Cosworth balks, too, the FIA won't dare do it. They can't afford to lose 4 teams.
Unfortunately, until Mosley finally really retires, of the GPWC finally stops sabre-rattling and actually does something, reason will not prevail in F1. |

Its about time a serious dose of reality hits. Especially with Bernie - if he would 'only' take, maybe 20% of all the revenue instead of the current 85% or so, then there would be plenty of money for all the teams to get new airplanes, new double decker motorhomes, better hospitality and maybe even some better more competitive cars! Its a big shame about the Browns lane factory -but I have been for a tour of the Castle Bromwich plant, to see the 'S' type being made -It's quite impressive.
