What time do you think you'll be driving by the Ranger Station east of Hemet heading up to Idylwild? I might sit out there and take some pictures as you go by (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Well, for the benefit of those who might some day want to attend one of these 914 fun runs, here are some things I learned yesterday:

1. Sometimes these fun runs are more 'fun' than 'run'.
2. Before taking your V8 conversion out for the first time, check the tranny mounts.
3. If you don't have time to check the tranny mounts, at least make sure that your dual muffler setup is securely fastened to the tranny so that when it drops while in motion, the tranny is spared.
4. Driving with a dropped tranny with the aforementioned setup is a good way to remove that unwanted metal on the bottom of your mufflers plus it makes a real cool dual roostertail of sparks.
5. Exiting a corner ass-end first is not the preferred technique, but if exiting a corner ass-end first, it is preferable to stay on the paved bits.
6. Don’t lift-throttle in the middle of a fast turn. See ‘5’
7. Carry a clean pair of underwear in the glove compartment. See ‘6’
8. If one insists on ignoring lessons 5 and 6, at least make sure there is at least one car behind you with occupants ready to help extract you from the dirt.
9. If you think you are pretty fast in your Civic, don't get in front of Duffster.
10. Be the guy following Duffster so you can hear the beautiful sound of that 2.7RS.
11. Damn that 2.7RS sounds sweet.

Oops!!!!

And BTW, the 2.7 is a long rod racing engine.

Back in '03, there was this yellow 914 that did a 360 in the middle of a mountain road in front of a 912. It wasn't a V8, just a lonely 2.0 and the driver was................................ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Well, one thing I can say, We didnt build this, we bought it this way. I am learning from these mistakes so mine wont have these problems. Just got off the phone with Renegade and the parts are on the way here so I should have everything I need by the weekend.

This 'off road excursion' was carried out by a beautiful blue 914-6. Does the driver post here? I forgot his name.

Waited at the Cranston Forrest Station until 11:30, then my daughter and I drove up to Idylwild, looked around, ate lunch, looked around, and headed back to Hemet at 1:00. Sorry we missed you guys, see you October 24th. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Some things are bound to happen. It helps to get someone's cell number so you can find what is going on. We didn't make it out of the BestBuy parking lot on the start of the run. The car repair didn't finish until after 12:00. I don't think any of us remembered that somebody was waiting down the road.

The car repair ended in the parking lot at noon and started again westbound on the 91 just west of Green Rivers. A stop at Costco and one new Optima later they were on their way again. It's a good thing we were there to lend support. But then that's what this cllub is all about.
Cheers, Elliot

We didn't make it more than 5-10 miles before the ringleader (Duffster) got called away.

Scott is posting pictures in a new thread.

Sorry about posting them in the other thread, this one was kind of big already and I thought it would be better if they had their own post, visitors looking for pictures can see them as soon as they open that thread instead of going through 4 or 5 pages first. Cowboy logic. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

We need a cowboy smiley.

Thanks to all for the help.

Anyone doing V8 conversions and using the 911 tranny mounts should make sure they install them correctly with ALL the hardware. Seems the PO didn't do that. Also seems the routing of the wiring wasn't done right which caused the other problems on the way home.

At least it got home on it's own. If i brought it home on a flat bed the wife would be a tad upset.

I'm off to my FLAPS to get some new battery cables and wire!!

The battery worked great till we hit the 22 interchange, then the main power cable burned through on the muffler and started a fire. What a day it was. Thanks to everyone for all the help.

Saw the pictures, that blue car sure looks pretty, glad everyone got home safely. Looks like when I get mine running, I'm gonna bring lots of tools just in case. A fork lift sure is handy too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I can't believe you had even more problems before getting it home. Now I feel guilty I didn't stay with you all the way.
