My 914 buddy said I should solicit advice from JP Stein and Brad Roberts at least. I bought two of these great little cars, one for the wife and one for me. Mine needs to be BAD.....Looking for about 150 HP, rides like a rock, corners like a F1 car, etc. I don't want the equipment to be the limiting factor. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) Budget is shy of spending ALL the retirement fund. OK guys, let's see what is out there.

Buy my car for $4.5 and put a big motor in it. It's all set up and was done by Mr Roberts himself.
Thats my advice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Even tho we're spending your money, are you sure you wanna do this to that nice pretty car? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
If you *really* want what you are asking for......well, Rob's car, for instance. It's first trip would be over to TonyC's for a cage tied into the front & rear suspension towers & maybe some camber plates.... while it's there....couple-3K (WAG). Then you have a good basis to work from. 5 lug wheels are.....almost required as you can get better wheel selection & brakes......I just realized this list could go on forever. Let's talk when you get back from China (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ....oh, and take some pics of the F1 show. |

If you have a clean '73 2.0, it's worth more to leave it the way it is. Buy a tub and fix it up if you want to autocross it. I just hate to see the best 914 they made, 914/6 excluded, anything but restored.

Just put Koni's on it and drive it in Stock class for awhile while you are build ing the killer car after you buy Rob's car. Seat time is the mostest important thing on deciding on how you want the car set up.

The approach here seems backwards. What class do you want to dominate? What other cars are your competition? Build your car to a class, don't build it to your specs and then let it land in whatever class it lands in.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) This is my first year AXing and I already know next year I will be in some DE events also. Rob's car would be and excellent start, and if I could get my finance officer (Hi Julie) to open up the check book, Rob's car would be living in Indiana right now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I would make that car my "track" car and keep my other as the daily driver. |

Hey Rob what you got? Fill me in on your car and why you would part with it. I've got some good imput on this AX thing. Here in Portland we just run anything against anything. I was beginning to wonder about classes and such. It is hard to beat that corvette with a little 2.0 914. I'm leaning toward a modified class. Not sure where the boundries are. Keep the info coming guys, Thanks so much. Gary

QUOTE It is hard to beat that corvette with a little 2.0 914. No its not...you would be very surprised. My 1.7L car often gets faster times than several of the 993's and 930 turbos at the autocross events around here. I doubt that a Corvette would do much better either. -Britian |

There you will find hella quick Vettes....C-5s, C-6s, Z06s. Take a look at the SCCA finals. ASP was won by a ought6....3 places back (bout 5-6 sec cumulative) was Greg Fordahl in a GT-3....not to take anything away from his efforts, but that's a tough crowd. Pete says the Vette lacks "finess". So does a 20 lb sledge hammer, but both will bust up a Porsche. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |
