If someone has done ya good, post it here!
Me first! Champion Import on RT 249 in Houston Texas. Mike is an old timer Porsche mechanic with experience dating back into the 1970's in So Cal. After some appearent brain damage, he moved to Houston and set up shop about 20 years ago. I took my 911 to him with idle problems. He first tried some "old time" adjustments to the Warm up Regulator (The CIS hydraulic brain), but it was not to be easy. He replaced the part, at less cost than I could buy it from Pelican and have it shipped, and with all of the work he did, he only charged me 1 hour of Labor!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) The 911 runs great now. Kudo's to Mike at Champion Import James (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool_shades.gif) |

ok
Dan Cashman of DC Racing in Irving TX (outside Dallas) Long time Porsche mechanic and 914 racer. Back in the day when my 914 was a daily driver, he many times kept me on the road chasing FI problems and ultimately an engine rebuilt. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) Just two weeks ago he let me come by his shop and dig through boxes looking for two fiber washers that go on the bottom of the fuel tank (Now NLA - of course). No charge from Dan. |

I think there was a thread about this started by Brad awhile back that had a good number of replies. Check for that.

Performance Car Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. I take my S4 there, and they've always done a great job. I've always done my own work on the 914, but if I had to take it somewhere, I wouldn't hesitate to take it there. The head mechanic has been working on Porsches for quite some time, and he actually understands D-Jet! A big plus, in my books.

I think this is a great idea, but could we arrange it by state?

RMG in Sunnyvale, Ca totally rocks. Bob, the owner, is an honest, easy to talk to, straight up guy. I feel like I get an excellent value in his shop.
They aren't overpriced, they don't take advantage. Just quality work for a good price. |

FYI:
Bob is one of the original Garretson's guy's from the late 70's early 80's IMSA racing fame. Some other names that came out of there: Jerry Woods, Bruce Anderson, Tony Heyer, Ted Robbins... and many more I dont recall right now. Bobs wife has a 914. B |

So soon they forget, eh James? You just moved away and already have forgotten to give props to Sergio at Motorworks. He is the bomb and wont do work that is unnecessary, believe me I tried to get him to and he talked me out of it.
Joh D. (Camgrinder) is great for cams. He works at Elgin. Larry Taylor near Toranto is also great for machine work. I don't know the name of his business, but I have his contact info if anyone needs it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif) |

I have been treated very well by Carrolls Foreign Cars in Glendale, AZ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif)
The shop primarily works on air cooled engines. Mostly VWs: bugs, buses, 1500s, 411s and the like. Shop manager Bill (long time air cooled mechanic) and JB have exhibited talent working with the Fuel Injection systems on both my cars. Passed emmissions first try and cars run strong. I know they work on a few other 914s. They don't stock a lot of Porsche parts, but can get them locally. Or they don't mind if you supply your own parts. I likes Precision Motion in Reeverside... They did the buildup(s) on my car, and pretty much got right the very first time. Cool to have that much 914 racing knowledge without a trip to the frozen wilds of Nor Cal (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I used Cone Mac Precision Machine in conoga park Ca. when I rebuilt my engine. I lost a valve seat and they fixed the (VERY BAD) damage to the head as well as going thru the other three cyl for seats and guides all four under $400 w/parts. very friendly over the phone and actually talked me out of spending money (with him) where not needed. Lots of T-IV knowledge. Highly recomend them. they were recomended to me by pelican.
I also think we should have a list of sorts on this site of known good vendors/shops |

San Diego Shops:
Don Clark Extreme Motorsports 7926 Raytheon Rd. 858-278-3988 Don's a Porsche Master Mechanic. His work is great, prices great, he'll answer questions you have, even if you want to do the work yourself. Good source for parts. He found the problem with my ignition system, that drove me nuts for 6+ months. When I took my 93 RS America in for H&R springs, I supplied springs, he did the installation, alignment and corner balance for much less than other shops, everyone else wanted $1000+. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Dennis Sherman Foreign Car Service 8620 La Mesa Blvd. La Mesa, Ca 619-464-7222 Did the sideshift transmission upgrade for my 6. Tore down my tailshifter and sideshifter I brought in, put a DZ or ZD 5th gear in, new syncro's, etc for less than a $1000, all other shops wanted $2000+. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) RW Little 3926 Pacific Highway 619-297-3705 Powder Coating and Flame Spraying. Excellent work. Powder Coating usually runs about $10 per piece, can do the Powder Coating in colors and metalics. Flame Spraying runs a little higher. Fast turn around. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Autobahn Dismantelling 444 Vernon Way El Cajon, Ca 619-444-2290 Bought my extra wheels from them, they even threw in the center caps and lug nuts at no extra charge. Also stripped the tires off the wheels so I could fit them in the 914-6 to get them home, no charge. Great Guys. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) |
